These "pamahiin" or superstitious beliefs dont have a scientific basis! whether we break or follow them our whether is still in our hands. But these "pamahiin" are part of the filipino culture that is why we should respect them, we should also preserve them for the next generation to reflect and bring back the memory of the real culture and traditions of filipinos!

i can see that there are still many people who follows these cultures. and that is good, they respect the beliefs and cultures that are forefather have given us. but i know that the fate of one still depends on how they manage their lives. i myself dont follow these cultures but i respect them in a way that i dont say something bad at them, i dont criticize these beliefs. and i think in that way i am respecting those beliefs already.

Hi! When I was young, I would believe in superstitions because of my "lola" and my mom who collaborates with her! Then I went to medical school and I became more objective. An example would be that I will become blind if I wash my hair and fall asleep with my hair still wet". Another is that if "I fan my sweaty back I would get pneumonia". These things have no medical explanations whatsoever. So, I stopped believing these things, more so that nothing happens when I "dream of a tooth falling off" or "I see a black cat cross the street infront of me".

I don't actually believe in superstition. Although, some superstitious belief are based on the experience of our ancestors but its just that they have different explanation. Some have scientific basis so I don't consider them as one. What about quack doctors? you believe in them?

I don't believe in "Pamahiin"! I have broken all of them and nothing bad happens to me. I believe that for as long as God is with me nothing can be against me. Whether a black cat crosses my way... then who cares, God is with me all the way.

Of course I think every culture has superstitions, and I think many modern folk still follow some just in case modern explainations overlook some grain of truth contained in the belief. I always knock on wood when wishing for something, I don't really beleive that it helps, but can't hurt.

Yes, you are absolutely right that mostly of the Filipinos are Superstitious and the thing I am always doing until now is when during the time I had a visitors in the house and that the person who visit would like to help me in the kitchen by washing dishes i do not allowed them for it is one of my belief that nobody would have to wash a dishes if they are not yet sleeping in the house for we believe that the grace will be out in the house and would go together with the visitors in the house......

i'm not so conscious with "pamahiin" anymore unlike when I was younger and stayed in the province. But i did try to "go against the pamahiin" it never changed a thing. I guess, only the old folks are into it.
