hi donofnet19!
i am using picasa 3 right now but of course, nothing can ever beat adobe photoshop. i have been wanting to have my own adobe photoshop editing but i still need to have a higher ram for my computer. sigh... i have to earn more for the amount that my laptop needs for installation of the pieces. hahaha! what is GIMP anyway?
happy posting and happy mylotting!

GIMP stands for GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is pretty similar to photoshop, except it's free, and open source. See my post above for the difference about them...
And BTW, I think picasa is more if a picture organizing and basic editing software, while photoshop and GIMP are more advanced programs, used for graphic designing.
Cheers,

picasa is very basic software with only few features, whereas with photoshop and gimp you can design anything you feel like.

Well, I prefer GIMP, for the simple reasons that it's free and open source. This allows people to make addons and extensions for it. Also, I don't really find a point in paying for a software when you can get a better equivalent for free. I guess Photoshop is popular due to its brand and because it is maybe a tad easier to use then GIMP, but GIMP is still more powerful.
As a conclusion, I think photoshop is better for casual photo editors, and GIMP for 'hardcore' graphic designers, who look for even more editing tools...
Cheers...

I think in terms of addon availabilities photoshop has more free adons then gimp.
But as you said the software itself is costly.

Photoshop is the best tool is you intend it for use in professional work. It is worth the value of its price if you use it professional work. But if you just work around with photos, you can use GIMP. There is no need to use such an expensive tool.

Compare photoshop with anything, photoshop wins it hands down. The interface, usability, utility, resources, help and customization, count all of those, and you wills see, nothing beats photoshop. Only thing is that, photoshop is quite expensive. But other applications aren't any good at a few dollars less. Invest in it, go for adobe products.
Best of Luck!
