If you were to put together some things in a time capsule and bury it to be found by someone generations from now, what would you put in it?
Would you put something personal? A diary? An article of clothing? A newspaper? Would you share something from this era like maybe a CD or ipod that is a more general item indicative of technology used today? Or would you make it something about your and/or your family, like photos or a letter?

Wow, this is a good question. I'm not sure what I would put. Maybe I would put some photos to show what hair styles and clothing looked like in this time. CD or DVD's would be good to show the kind of music and movies we had. I think a newspaper would be good also to show what is in the news. All of those you mentioned would be great ideas to put in the time capsule. I never really thought about this before. Good question.

I think most of us have heard stories about this sort of thing, and I just wonder what people today might come up with that would be different than say, what our parents might have put in.

The problem with putting in a CD or DVD is that whoever finds it in the future may not have a device to play it on, and if you put in a player it may corrode and be ruined when the capsule is dug up.

I would put in some newspaper clippings about people doing good things. In our paper just the past month there were three purses returned when found in carts and stuff, a wallet returned (all were intact), a dog rescued from the street, a cat rescued from the middle of the freeway, a family received an anonymous box of food after the power went back on, etc. This is a good town and a good country and I would like people in the future to know about what great people we have.

Wow, I'm surprised you found all that in the news. Most journalists don't like to report the good stuff, so yea, play it up!

That would be a awesome idea to do. I am thinking to do this with my little 7 year old sister. She would love to do this. I would put in a few CD's that have pictures of us all but I fear the CD's would get ruined by the cold dampness of the ground. I would put in our favorite music,a few books we liked to read and all kinds of stuff about us our likes and dislikes a journal and when it was time to open if we remember where we buried it by that time, it would be cool to know what we were like and for my little sister to say oh my I was like that..it is a fabulous idea.

I would put a diary in it, to show what life was like in the time it was written. I think I would put a letter in it too, something that spoke to the person who found it and told them a bit about me and my family and maybe a couple of photos too. I would put some of my knitting it and a few pairs of needles too. It would be interesting to actually do this, I just wish that I could see who found it and how long after they found it. Knowing my luck someone would find it just a couple of years later!!

I think along those same lines. Technology will be documented everywhere, but no one knows about you personally unless you tell them.

Ldyjarhead,
Semper Fi!
Uh, I'm not meaning to sound silly but,
I'd find me a nice smooth stone and carve a SMILY FACE
into it! That way someone might realize that man-kind was
here before and to smile through all the hard times every
generation of man will face.

What's wrong with silly? If that's what you wanted to do, there's no reason not to.

I think it would be pictures of my family... and with descriptions and important dates at the back... i would also put in a couple of news papers... yearbooks... and some magazines... just to give the future people a bird's eye view of what the past was like...

If I was given a chance to put in something in that capsule, I would put my family photographs. This would be really cute and emotional to find that over the time. I guess with all the options available I would choose the photographs.

That's a great question; I can remember doing something like this when I was in
grade school, our class put together some items and we buried it here in town
where at the moment escapes my wee brain; LOL!
I think I'd put in a current newspaper or several maybe a weeks worth, some
family photo's;
maybe some of my favorite magazines, to sorta show what all is going on at the
time;
but this is a great topic, and should be interesting to see what sort of
answers you get...

It makes since to put photographs, newspapers, forms of music and even cloths in a time bottle. These are things that constantly change and would indicate the age and era that the time capsule is from. But I do not think I would add something like a personal diary. That is just to personal.

I'd put a photo of myself.
Its amazing how people change with time and you forget what you looked like years ago.
I'd also put photos of people I know.
I've seen some photos of people from way back and it says a lot to see the differences.

I guess I'd put some pictures on a CD and take some of my favorite music and put it on a separate CD too. I'd probably write a letter about my life and put it in a envelope and mark it "Open immediately, you just might learn something from me".

good day... I would invaluable things like photos, diary, commemorative coins, memorabilia and the likes. I would just wonder what would it look like 50 years from now. A memory kept and then reminisce after a very long time and for sure it would look like something from the past.

Maybe I'll put some magazines and newspaper too. Besides that I might include DVDs of movies that were shown during that era. Maybe a personal thing I could include is a CD of my blog entries and maybe some videos of my performances.
