So I just found out that I have Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

OK, I knew for a long time but never bothered to look it up and didn't even know how it's called or read anything about it until now. In the begging I actually thought I'm the only one until I saw a movie with Jack Nicholson- "As good as it gets". Fortunately I'm not that extreme as Jack's character but I do have some things like that. I'm kinda obsessed with numbers (5 and 2). I do some weird things like when I walk up the stairs I need to step 2 times on second step on first floor. Or I need to touch some object certain number of times. I also had this "compulsion" before but I got over it: When I wanted to turn off the light I would turn it off, turned it back on just to turn it off again. Sometimes even 5 times in a row lol. If I don't do this "tasks" I just feel uneasy like something wrong is going to happen even if I know it's ridiculous. I know I can stop doing this things if I really want but I also thing it's kinda cool and makes me unique somehow... Do you have some "things" like that and what do you think about OCD?

I have not been diagnosed with the disorder, but amthinking that it is adefinite possibility for me to be afflicted with it as well. I think i may have to take those online tests as mentioned in the other post. My 2 sister both have it to varying degrees and I have been told by each of them that they believe I may have it as well. I feel that people do not have a full understanding of the disorder and how the severity of it can be so difficult for people to deal with. I am going to check out the online tests now!

Go check them and don't forget to post the results. I think most of the people have some symptoms of OCD because I talked to my friends about it and they all found them selfs in something that could classified them as OCD person. I haven't been diagnosed with OCD either, I just think I might have it to the certain point. It's ok as long as you control it.

I once took an online test to see if I had OCD. I was shocked when it came back positive. I knew I couldn't possibly have OCD. But then I took it again, five times in a row, and then once with my eyes closed, and it came back negative each time. That would've been weird if I had that disorder. Joking aside, I do have some OCD-like preferences. The volume on my tv has to be a multiple of 3; Furthermore, all changes in channel or volume have to end with going from a lesser number to a higher number (Like if I want to go from channel 18 to channel 12, I'll go from 18 to 11 and then back up to 12). I always have to have my shades angled a certain way. But otherwise, I dont think I have severe enough quirks to qualify as really having the disorder.

Hey, thanks for the reply. Online test is good idea...I took two tests just now and I got "OCD is probable" (if I scored one point less I would get "OCD is unlikely") in first and "Probability in percentage of disorder: 60%" in second test. The TV thing is very OCD-like. It's cool as long it doesn't get annoying.
