My son would rather play and talk then do his work in school. We punish him by taking things away and that doesnt seem to help make things better... What would you do? I feel like I am running out of things to make this better. He is only 6 and I want him to learn to be a good student and excel and the lack of discipline makes me worry.

I would find out if he is having a problem in the classroom or with the teacher. First go chat with the teacher. If he isn't having problem with the other kids, see if he is ready for his grade level. he may be acting out because he doesn't understand the work.

We had conferences yesterday and he is doing well in class and he loves his teacher. I think he gets done early and understands what he is doing the first time around where a lot of kids dont. therefore he is left to try to entertain himself while everyone else finishes. however that leads to him talking or playing and that means he gets in trouble, so what do i do to teach him not to play and talk with others.Thats my main issue

Have you had him tested for advanced classes? My husband use to get into all kind of trouble as a child and even in advanced classes he was bored. He ended up skipping a grade.

My daughter had trouble focusing on what was going on around her and getting her work done. The teacher's kept telling me, she was ADHD. But there was no hyperness to her. We took her to have her evaluated and she has a high IQ. She also has a genetic form of ADD. She has medication now that she takes when she needs to concentrate and she doesn't have to take it if she doesn't need to pay attention to anything. It really did help her.
