With the Internet comes a lot of temptation. One of these temptations is to download things that you shouldn’t. There are sites that you can download movies, music, videos, games, ect. That’s not to say that you should since downloading movies in particular is illegal. Yet ppl do it. Movies that have only just come out in theaters can be downloaded. Ppl might rationalize it by saying that since they cost so much it’s ok to download them. But if you think of the real cost if you get caught…last time I checked it was $250,000 per movie and 10-20 years in prison per movie…is it really worth it. I’d rather pay the $5-$30 per movie and buy the ones I want. At least I won’t have to spend my twilight years sharing a prison cell with a woman named Bertha.
Would you take the chance of downloading movies or music to save some money…knowing what the consequences are if your caught? Do you know ppl that do this and what is they’re reasoning behind it? If someone you knew was doing it would you turn them in?

Me and my family enjoy watching movies in theaters. We do it once a week during our day off together with our daughter. My hubby and i pick her in school and then go to the mall and watch a movie.I won't spend my time downloading,it won't worth my effort.

I am finally able to download but I haven't done so yet. There are so many viruses and stuff in the movie files and it can harm your computer and cost more damage then what it cost to just go out and buy the movies. I have Aries share program installed but haven't downloaded anything not even music. I am wanting to just to afraid to.

Well to tell you the truth, PIRACY is indeed all around the world.. You can't stop them now.. Even though we have agents, they couldn't still stop it.. Cause you know, nowadays people are practical, why do we have to buy an original movies, or DVD's, it cost too much expensive, while on the street, it only cost a 1/8 of the price of even less.. And still it has the same quality, but not all.. But the fact is, that, the one who is releasing this kind of pirated material, is the one who really produced it.. I'm not referring to all, but, There are indeed what you called underground spot, where they exchanged this video tapes for the most reasonable price.. Yet, they all know it is forbidden, but that's how it is.. For the sake of MONEY.. ^_^

Isn't this 250000 dollars a bit too much, do you actually know some one who got caught for downloading movies? And 10-20 years in prison and that too per movie. I think you have looked at the wrong information. Or if not then this is really more than too much. It's not really worth for a movie. But i think this all will be in other countries, but the country where i live there is no legal restrictions on downloading stuff, I have full access to any p2p software or any website which lets you download movies. This is good for me, so when the movie releases its usually available on the internet after 3 to 4 days, so you can watch the new releases for free.

From what I know, most of the people who actually got caught were not just downloading. They downloaded, & made it available for others to download. Also, most of the people who were involved were actually caught sharing music more often than movies. Furthermore, they were sharing gigabytes of music.
I cannot speak for the MPAA, other than that usually, when a movie is made, the actors, producers, directors, & other personnel all get paid up front or on salary. So downloading that movie means that they do lose quite a bit of money, being that they paid everyone, especially the stars, actors & actresses.
With music, the only people that get paid beforehand might be the record company executives - depending on various terms of contracts with artists & bands. The only talent who MIGHT get paid up front are very famous & popular artists like Elvis back in the 1970's or maybe Michael Jackson. Normally, sales of whatever music that gets recorded in the studio & marketed, & sold on CD's, or even purchased for download from places like i-Tunes go to the record company. The artists get hardly anything. The artists themselves get the bulk of the payments for their works only from the ticket sales of their live shows.
As a result of the lawsuits, several artists have actually went out on their own instead of the RIAA-affiliated major record labels. Two artists that I know about are Willie Nelson & Tiffany. One artist that I heard who wants nothing to do with the RIAA is David Ruffin Jr. In case people are wondering who he is, his father, David Ruffin, was a member of The Temptations who sang My Girl, & went on with a solo career. Oh - yeah - his uncle is Jimmy Ruffin, who had that one 1966 hit, What Becomes Of The Brokenhearted.
There is a lot of stuff out there that is not available for consumers to buy, & because of that, downloading is the only way to obtain those things. If I want it, but it's out of print, I probably would download it, if it was available. However, this can be somewhat dangerous as well, because the files can actually be infected with viruses, trojans, spyware &/or malware.

well, i do understand and i do download i admit it. the most i do is music. for movies, like ones that are one DVD and theaters, i don't do that. since the quality is low. if i download things its normally something i missed on tv which is available the next day or something from another country like Japan. I watch new episodes which air in japans of anime i like. none of those are available in the us, and i'll eventually purchase the dvds once available. i do my download through p2p sites. i think the people who should pay more for these things are those who download and then try to sell it on a dvd format. i personally wouldn't turn anyone in since i've download things myself.

Oh my. If someone cannot afford to buy the movies, etc., then instead of stealing them they should be working longer hours until they can, not looking for shortcuts. For me it would not be about taking a chance, it would be about getting priorities straight.
I am the kind of person, who if someone I knew was doing that, they would have enough sense not to tell me, not out of fear that I would report them (I have better things to do), but out of the sure knowledge that I would think less of them. Now that might not be as bad a consequence as fine or prison, but it would be a more likely consequence.

I did it until I found out it was wrong.I would not
do it now. There are sites that tell you it is alright
that they are no copy rights on them, but you know if
the movie just came out it has to have one.I been look-
ing for the laws.I glad you gave some, thank you for
that.

I never tried downloading movies and music.. i prefer to buy one and add it to my collection. Despite the fact that people might get caught and be in prison for many years there are lot of people still want to download.. well maybe all i need to say they can do that as long as they will not be caught..

Good day... Truthfully I did my share of downloading specially the real oldies songs where I can't buy anywhere. It's not a justification it's just a reason. Anyway about downloading movies I also have a share of that stealing but I also watch it on the movies(big screen). It's just that watching it once wouldn't suffice specially when I loved the movie and watching it all over again in the movie house would cost a lot. I know it's wrong and I'm cutting it down. I'm just honest about myself.

I agree with you ,and I prefer to pay the $32.00 everytime I go to the movies than to end up in trouble by either paying a fine or jail time. People need to stay away from stuff that is illegal and stay away from tentations.

I have never done that, though I was tempted a few times. It's stealing, plain and simple. I had a running battle with my sons about this and I don't know if they do it as adults but they were forbidden to steal like this when they were living with me.
I don't care what the rationale is or how much money an artist or actor makes, they're entitled to be compensated for their work. I wouldn't work for free and don't expect them to, either. If I want it, I'll pay for it. If I'm unwilling to pay for it, I'll do without. I don't understand why people steal things by downloading.
