People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals sent a letter to Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, cofounders of Ben & Jerry's Homemade Inc., urging them to replace cow's milk they use in their ice cream products with human breast milk, according to a statement recently released by a PETA spokeswoman. A Swiss restaurant owner will begin purchasing breast milk from nursing mothers and substituting breast milk for 75 percent of the cow's milk in the food he serves.
I read this article and thought EWWW. Does anyone else think this is taking it a bit far? I am pregnant, and about to give like a jersey cow myself. NO way I'd sell it for ice cream.

I think PETA should be disbanded. As a FORMER member, I think they are ridiculously deluded in almost ALL of their thinking, and they ALL need to realize that PEOPLE ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN ANIMALS. Who cares whether their ice cream is made with cow milk? Not me. Do I care if it's made with HUMAN milk? YES! I'd make my own if it came to that! I can't afford Ben and Jerry's except as the occasional treat, but I'd boycott them if they used people milk. I think the U.S. government, PETA, and all other "animals first" organizations need a serious reality check. Come on, PETA! Get a life! There are people suffering from real problems such as homelessness, gas shortage, jobless, hungry children, and you want to change the formulation of DESIGNER ICE CREAM?! What the hell?! Get serious, and help PEOPLE if you need to fight someone else's battles!

Where did the article come from? It sounds like something The Onion would dream up. But PETA does seem to have become a collection of extremists and crazies over the years, so maybe it's true. It used to be a good organization.

I have no idea how much milk B&J use annually, but it must run into the millions of gallons of milk from dedicated herds of cows. Are we to see fields full of lactating women milked twice a day? PETA have, not for the first time, lost the plot. I would have thought that a case for the debasement of women could quite easily be made here. A gift for the anti-PETA brigade of which I am proud to say that I am one!

My sister says that PETA probably knows better and is doing this only for publicity.

Now I am convinced that PETA is crazy azz hell! This is obsurd! It seems that everytime they make the news, it gets worse. I can't even think of anything else to say for this madness, other than they must have a bunch of mad cows representing them!

What I find funny is that they are going after Ben & Jerry. Ben & Jerry Already uses hormone free, organic fed, free range milk. Out of all the ice cream distributors, they are the last ones PETA should comment on.
If PETA is worried about cows, maybe they should focus on places using rice milk ro a tofu base instead.

I think Peta are pushing things too far in this matter. There are other serious items that require immediate attention more than this. I don't seen a real issue here.
