I usually skip breakfast and just take coffee or a slice of bread with butter not because I'm on a diet but just because i really am not hungry so early in the morning. A lot of my friends tell me that this is not a good habit because breakfast is suppose to be the most importan meal of the day. I thought lunch being the main meal, is the most important meal. So what do you thinK? Do you agree or disagree?

Breaking your nighttime fast is important. It starts to ramp up your metabolism and gets you going in the morning. If you think about it, most people expend more energy first thing in the morning as they ramp up the activity for the day.
As far as what you are saying, however, think of it this way. If you are not hungry than there is no reason to Break your fast. Get a drink (don't think coffee is the best) water or juice. Then don't eat until you are hungry. I think most people break their fast first thing in the morning because they know that they will not be able to do so in the middle of the morning, with work or school going on.
So if your breakfast is at lunch time it is the most important meal of the day. :)

Hi doubleloveyou, thanks for seeing it from my point of view but i think I'll give a proper breakfast a try and maybe I'll soon look forward to it first thing in the morning. It's true about expending energy in the morning and so it's a good idea to have breakfast.

I agree!!
Strongly agree!!
Breakfast IS the most important meal of the day.
Because you just had nothing to eat for the previous 7-8 hours (i.e. night).
And your body does twice as much as work it does in the day.
SO it also needs the fuel.
People can even faint if they don't have their breakfast and go to work without it!!
Its may be your metabolism but I am super hungry in morning.
I just wake up, brush my teeth, take bath and shout for my breakfast.
AS I love my breakfast to be hot served.

I avoid breakfast like you. Whatever others say OK, it is our stomach to fill. If we can leave it empty without filling dangerous acidity, fine. But I take a moderately good lunch. Evening I like take a light dinner. This keeps my body weight constant for many years. Still I have some potbelly. I want to reduce it sincerely.

Luckily I have avoided having ulcers. I don't usually have midmorning or afternoon snacks but I usually go heavy on lunch because by noon my stomach is crying out for food. Some of my friends tell me that I would not eat so much for lunch if I bothered to have a good breakfast. Maybe they have a point there but the problem is that I usually don't have any appetite for a meal in the morning but I do enjoy my coffee and even drink several cups a day. Maybe because i take a heavy lunch and a regular dinner I also have some problems with my belly and like you, I tend to have bulges there. He he. Maybe I should start gollowing my friend's advice.

I'll be in a very bad moods if i forget to eat one single meal. And the most important meal i need to have is breakfast that should follow right after my coffee as my starter. That's me also. I guess that make us so unique as an individual.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, not they biggest. After all you are "breaking a fast" (unless you can eat in your sleep). I always try to eat breakfast, some times its just toast with butter, it just depends how hungry I am or what I have in at the time. But everyone is different, if you are okay not eating till lunch, getting your 5 fruit and veg a day, then I don't see much of a problem. I dunno what time you normally get up, but you could always try eating breakfast later, if your work (or what ever) allows you to.
On another note also heard that you should drink 2 pints of water when you wake up, because you lose alot from sweating in your sleep.

Thanks for the tip about drinking 2 pints of water upon getting up. that's new information. Actually, I got so used to not having breakfast except coffee that i really felt I was okay and there was nothing wrong to the habit of skipping the meal. But having read all the responses, I believe i should try and cultivate the habit of eating a good and proper breakfast.

I think that toast and some fruit is fine for breakfast, if you eat loads it can make you feel a bit sluggish.
And thinking about the sweating, getting an dehumidifeyer for the bedroom might not be a bad idea, to get some of the sweat out of the sheet and mattress.

I would never skip breakfast. It is hard to get accustomed to if you have lived without it for a long time but once you eat breakfast on a regular basis you ll notice that you do better in life. Eat regulary and in small portions.

Hi acevivx, I know that we are supposed to eat breakfast
because they say it is the most important meat of the day,
but I very rarely ever do. I'm just not a big breakfast
eater. I never really was. Even when I was working I really
didn't eat correctly. I would grab and donut or a bagel
and cream cheese, but neither were the proper breakfast
foods. Now that I am currently not working I don't even
it anything sometimes until dinner. I never was one to
eat normally. Well, I don't exactly do anything normally
for that matter! I happen to like my breakfast for dinner
anyway! But I do know that people that I know that do eat
normally and have breakfast are more alert and more prodcutive.

Hi opal26, i am surprised how you could last until dinner without taking in anything. I am happy for you that there are no adverse effects because regardless of what is the most important meal of the day, the fact remains that our body needs nourishment. i am aware there are some who do not at all feel hungry but their body physically suffer like those with anorexia. i hope my friend that this is not the case with you. Take better care of yourself.

I am so not anorexic! Don't worry about me! I have no problem
eating! Maybe a problem eating too much! It's just that I
eat at wierd times. I am a night eater. I always ate dinner
very late so I eat lunch sometimes late in the afternoon
or not at all. I just don't follow a schedule, but don't
worry I do eat and I sure could afford to lose some pounds!

I don't normally eat breakfast, I'll just have a glass of juice and then coffee! Some of my friends also tell me that breakfast is an important meal of the day, I try to have a small breakfast, like cereal or fruits, but most of the time I don't feel like to eat! I think for me lunch is my important meal.

It seems we both have the same idea but maybe it would not be so bad to try out the suggestion of cultivating the hanit of having a good breakfast which will sustain our strength and energy till lunchtime. I really do want to have lighter lunches as I tend to become sleepy after a heavy lunch.

I think lunch is an important meal but then having breakfast in the morningis also essentially good as it makes u feel good and above all energitic.Atlast a cup of milk and a lille cereal is also good incae if u dont want to have proper breakfast.Even a fruit would also do good to make u fresh.Having diner lightly before u go to sleep is always good.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day since that is the time we are active. Our body needs energy to keep us going. When you skip breakfast you are likely to become tired when your brain and body run low on fuel. By lunch you are hungry, crabby and perhaps your mood might make you a little more prone to make unhealthy choices at lunch.
Skipping breakfast is a common strategy by some women to lose weight. But it is not a smart idea. Many people believe that they will lose weight if they skip meals but that just isn't true, the body expects to be refueled a few times each day starting with breakfast.Actually eating breakfast is good for weight lost. In fact people who eat breakfast are more likely to maintain a healthy weight.

I disagree with this because skipping breakfast is not good, from the breakfast we get more energy than the lunch or dinner. I do not say eat too much in the morning but eat little bit so that you can eat more in the lunch. Breakfast is the most important meal for the day. The breakfast should be nutritious for the kids as well as the elders because the importance of breakfast is equal for all. This is commonly observed that those kids which goes to school after breakfast show better results. They do not feel themselves lazy and dull and this is why their perfomance at school is always better than the ones who do not have their breakfast. This is not only true with the kids but this is also quite true in case of elders. People having the habit of taking breakfast exibit healthy attitude towards eating and diet.

I've heard about that too, about those having a proper breakfast being more alert and making good grades in school compared to those who don't eat or have a proper breakfast. But this was in relation to a study about deprived children as compared to those who are luckier. this really strikes home the logice of the argument of those who say breakfast is the most improtant meal. Thanks for sharing

hi there, we are the same type of people. i only have a cup of coffee as breakfast. i don't think there is an important meal of the day. as long as you take in enough nutrients everyday it's good enough. to me, the body is just like a car engine. will you try to crank your engine right after a whole night's of rest? if not, why would you force your body to start the whole chain of reaction right after waking up? imagine the things our body do just so we can eat. firstly, the saliva glands got to start working really hard. then the oesophagus and stomach goes to work. followed by the intestines. four hours of hard work right after waking up! i don't think anyone will drive our car four hours straight right after starting the engine first thing in the morning! cheers ;p

i guess i find out body a lot like that of a car. we both need fuel (food for us) to run. both need rest after going for quite a while. we heat up after running for a while. we need occasional servicing and maintainance (all the check ups and stuff). it's actually quite a lot alike. even for fuel, we have to convert it into energy before we can use it. too much additive in the 'fuel' is harmful to the 'engine'. kekeke

Hi applefreak. I can't imagine my body being a car(hehe0 but i think there's quite a lot of difference since, unlike a car, when you wake up, you are already cranked up for activity which continues the whole day and don't you think therefore, just like a car that's about to go on a long and tiring journey, that you should be fully tanked up? i like your imagery.

Hi Cream97. Thanks for the comment. Yes there are a lot who would agree with you that lunch is the most important meal. I think all the meals are important but i guess the choice as to what is the most important meal of the day depends also on our personal inclinations and schedules.

I know they say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I can be hungry first thing but once i drink the coffee im not as hungry anymore. I still think that my first meal of the day is the most important reguardless if its 6 am or 12 noon.

I agree that the first meal is very important because it's a fact that we need sustenance and of course our first meal for the day no matter what time we take it is very important. Others however say that since we start working early in the morning, we should have a meal in the morning before starting to work.

I guess in the end it really depends on how we take care of ourselves. And i also agree now that the three meals are all important to give us energy and strength. It's just that sometimes we just get used to skipping meals and soon it becomes a habit which is not at all good. Thanks for responding.
