What is Religion? Is the demarcation of people based on tht actually necessary ?

In my opinion there should be just one religion and thats MANKIND and two sects under it namely MALE and FEMALE !!! Religion was as widespread phenomenon across the world thousands of years ago even before i was born. Searching to my best i was able to somewhat correlate from various religions and conclude that it was all established stating the various principles to just emphasize on the idealistic existence of the mankind. But are those the principles really heeded by the majority of the people across the globe? Hasn't the religions paved way to illogical superstitions ?
