Would you do it to stay alive?

So, I sat down and watched Man vs. Wild with my husband this weekend, which I've done once or twice before. But I can't stop thinking about this episode. For those of you who do not know the show, this guy gets dropped off in the middle of nowhere and has to surive, make it to a place that we will find people to help him. I saw him surive in the snow. Extreme stuff.
I will tell you right now, if you have a weak stomach, don't like the killing of animals, don't like bugs, don't read any further. Once again, DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER if you are easily disgusted.
I missed the beginning of the show, but saw him as he started out somewhere in Mexico. His goal was to reach the ocean. I'll just highlight the bullet points and put in my perspective.
1. Scale a mountain to see where you are and need to go. Scaling the side of a mountain and almost jumping onto a rattle snake on the way down. To avoid the rattle snake, jump into a near by tree. ---Yes, I would do this.
2. Get down to the bottom and find decaying tree. Dig out 7 inch larvae, squish out the bad guts and eat it. Also grab a nearby beatle, bite of it's head and attempt to eat the rest (but it was too bitter). ---Not the beatle, too cruchy. I would have to be really bad off for the the worm thing. Or so I thought until...
3. Use shoelaces to get water from the side of a boulder into my waterbottle ---Yes, that's an easy one.
4. Find skunk tracks, make a snare from wires found in old truck, snare the skunk, go into an incredibily fowl smelling area, using your jacket to grab skunk hanging from the air, then cut off it's head. Then put it on a stick, burn off all the hair, roast it and eat it. Said it tasted like steak that had be rubbed in dog feces. ---No, no and no. I probably would have died there.
5. Next day find beehive. Cover up my body except for eyes and forehead. Get stung and have eyes swell up so you can barely see and you continue to walk trough a more desert area. ---I would have hoped I would have remembered to cover my entire body. The honey was good stuff.
6. Run into another rattlesnake, that wants to attack you. But you can't see it that well because your eyes are swollen. You you take a big stick and try to pin it to the ground behind the head so it can't get you. But the way, the sucker is around 4 feet long. Pin it, and in one motion, stab it through the head so it can't open it's mouth, then cut off the head. By the way, it's still moving around. Then skin it, which was interesting done in one motion. Roast and eat it. ---Possibily if I had a knife. He said it tasted like a combo of chicken and fish.
7. Get stuck in the sand dune with no water. Take out snake skin that you saved. Pee in it and it and then drink it. ---No. No way. My husband says you have to be really desprate to do that.
Of course, he did make it to the ocean.
So would you do any of these things? Of course, it's harder for me, the city girl to deal with some of these things, even though I do go camping. (Sorry this one's so long.)

Show is very interesting. They go in all sorts of different places. Some of them are really beautiful. You would just want a guide and lots of food.

Seriously, I have no idea what I would do. I guess if you get hungry or
thirsty enough you would do anything. I just haven't been that thirsty
or hungry, I guess.
We used to go camping as kids, but Mom and Dad always took care of us.
I tried it once as an adult, we rented a cabin in the mountains and ended up sleeping
in our van because the bed was more comfortable...lol
Roughing it to me is staying at a Ramada Inn with room service..lol
Sorry, no thanks, I'm sort of a city gal.

My mom is the same way, but possibly more extreme - she includes high speed interent access, elevators, and valet as essentials. LOL

First off, it's disgusting to drink urine but it IS sterile so you can't get sick that way from it. I'd do it if I had to. I've camped and hunted and fished all my life with the bare minimum sometimes, just to see if I could do it. I'm a lot older now and might not enjoy it but I could do what that guy did. I wouldn't like it, but I'd make it to the ocean.

Excellent! I would just hope to get stranded with someone who's skills were better than mine. And I agree, if I was younger I would enjoy it more. I don't do well with sleeping straight on the ground anymore, and that would be the least of my worries!

Hi SukiSmiles! I used to watch this show before and saw some episodes back when I was In India, but didn't had the chance to see the show again!
I will probably do some of your list in order to survive, but the one I saw when he was in Africa is no for me, its either Elephant or Rhinoceros pooh and squeezed then drunked the liquid that came out of it. I just can't believe that he did that!

I've become too accustomed to shopping at the grocery store. And that's not easy. Avoiding shopping carts. Trying to open those plastic bags. Waiting in line. But as hard as that is, I think I'll continue to get my food that way. Of course he was never alone. Somebody had to be filming his adventures.

Yes, there is a camera guy, but he doesn't help him. Doesn't share his food or anything like that. He did ask the camera guy to pull out one stinger from his forehead, but that was because he wanted to be able to show it to everybody on camera. Massive it was. He pulled the other ones out himself.

Thanks for filling me in. But at my age, the grocery store is all the adventure I can manage. LOL

This is one reason I always try to be prepared.
http://preparedforsurvival.blogspot.com is my blog I just started that I am sharing my ideas on how to be prepared for any type of an emergency. No power, etc.
