Would you Ask Someone to Pay Vet Bill

A few days ago my daughter's do was ran over and the accident broke the dog's back and he had to be put to sleep. The problem is that my other daughter is the one that ran over the dog. She is so very sorry for it - it was truly an accident. Now, daughter #1 wants to ask daughter #2 to pay a least half of the vet bill. Is this something that you would do or something that you think is "acceptable"? I worry that either way there is going to be hard feelings between them.

I think it is more than acceptable. Your daughter that ran over the dog should have offered to pay the entire bill.

If Daughter #2 hasn't already offered, I think she should, especially if Daughter #1 might have issues paying the bill. I understand and agree that accidents do and can happen, but having worked in a veterinary office, euthanasia is not very cheap. I don't see it as a way of getting back at her for revenge, but more as a sense of peace, comfort and companionship. It is one less area of regret to be left. Sometimes in life, some mistakes, you must or should pay for. It's only money after all, the symbolism offered by daughter #2 for the thought and concern will more than makeup for a lot of what's happened.
