I found on the internet that there are many causes. Some of them may be toxins introduced into your dog's system, infection, or it can be hereditary. When you took your dog to the vet, he should have run tests and told you what the cause of the kidney failure was. No one can truly know until tests are run and questions answered.

This happens to dogs and cats but most of the time to dogs. They can be born with problems that consturt the kidneys from working right and then as they get older it makes them have kidney failure . If you dog got into antifreeze or ethylene this will make there kidneys fail on tehm too. I am sorry to hear about your dog cause that would have been really hard.
