When i was little, i saw a MUTE beggar who was....well asking people for cash....since i was at the bus stop and had a lot of time to waste i kept studiying this fellow.......after about 3 hours (my bus was very late) around lunch....i saw this beggar go to a pal of his and count his alms.....wonder of wonders they started talking and arguing....Our "MUTE" had very colourful vocabulary and quite a voicebox.....
From that day....i've stopped tolerating beggars.

interesting what you observe when no one thinks you are watching! I will not give money to someone asking for it. If I see someone desparately looking for money and standing at a phone booth or a parking meter I would be likely to help them out...even if they have the money and are just having a hard time finding it- I understand the frustration.
As for beggars, I will give food. I will give clothing, blankets...whatever I ,except for money.

thats true.
and yes i do agree with your view point about helping the needy with food clothing and even interacting with them....counselling them.....my mom regularly does this.

I tolerate their pets. I used to bring dog biscuits with me when I lived downtown. Poor animals! I also will give them money if they have a talent.

I think that observing is a great idea when you want to find a reason not to do something. I think that its the act of giving whether its food or money is important. The Act not what is givin. I give and dont question what there motives are because once I give them that money or food then its theres to do with what they please. God will deal with them if they are lying, but what counts is the act. Not so much the outcome.

not since the afternoon I saw a man and his family sitting on the side of a busy intersection in the snowy grey day. I pulled off the side of the road, offered them a room in a nearby motel for a few nights and meals at the restaurant. He asked me to just give them the cash for all that instead of paying for it, and when I said, 'no, this way I can do it on my credit card' he said 'screw off! we make more money than that in just a few hours sitting here looking pitiful!' lol
