Do you have a debit card from PayPal?

I'm very excited about getting my new debit card for my paypal account. Should I be? Has anyone else gotten a paypal debit card in order to use the money in their paypal account? Do you tend to spend more if it's more easily accessible? I've already bought some things online from my paypal account, but haven't had direct access to it in my daily life until now. I think I'll be tempted to use it now when I'm out shopping when before I had it, I would not have had access to it. If you have one, have you regretted it or do you consider it more of a handy thing? Should I carry it with me or leave it home when I go shopping? With Christmas coming, I hope to use it to buy some gifts. I just don't want to think of it as a way to buy something I really don't need. If you have one, have you been tempted to spend the money on yourself?

I've had one for several years and it comes in very handy. T ushis way I can use it to make purchases or even pay bills plus since I stay with my 92 year old mother to care for her it's come in handy on several occasions when my brother has sent me money to help with expenses here. It's instantly available and doesn't cost a fortune like sending money Western Union and doesn't take several days to get here and several more days to clear if he were to send me a check. It's also come in very handy on vacation since I could transfer some funds from my bank account to my Paypal account before we left and then had access to more cash when needed while away which beats carrying a lot of cash to begin with. i have been thinking about it. once a month or when i reach $50 in my paypal account i transfer the money straight to my checking account. personally im thinking that if i did have the paypal debit card i would never reach $50 to be able to put it into my checking account lol! i would find it far to easy to say "oh i can use my paypal debit card and not have to pull any money from checking at all!" and then buy all sorts of stupid things. ultimatly i try to have enough from paypal for whomever's birthday is coming up next.

I think it has to be a merchant account to get one, but I'm not sure if that's changed or not. My PayPal is a merchant account because I was selling on ebay at the time I got my debit card.

Hi mentalward. I have a Paypal debit card as well but haven't used it quite a while. They are fine as long as you have money in your account. I consider it a handy thing to have. I also consider any money in that account is used for pampering myself. The only trouble is, I don't have enough in there to do anything, so I'll just have to wait until I get enough from mylot in about 50 years to go buy breakfast.

*whisper* I'm the only one with this card. If I get a little extra money from singing or whatever, I put it in this account and it's MINE,BABY!. Oops, sorry, I got carried away.

Hahahaha! I know what you mean. Well, I do have enough to go to Denny's. I love your idea of using this money to pamper ourselves. I've already used some of it to buy flower seeds and, since I love gardening, I guess you could call that pampering myself, kinda sorta. Maybe I just feel guilty spending money on myself. I spent most of my adult life just squeaking by, financially speaking, and what extra money I did have almost always went to buy things for my kids. Since I met and married my hubby, I've been able to spent whatever money I earn on myself, but I can't quite get rid of that guilty feeling that inevitably accompanies spending money on myself. Of course, it's not like we're talking thousands of dollars here! Okay, I think I can talk myself into spending that money on myself without feeling TOO guilty. Thank you!

I don't have one, but I have been thinking about getting one. I'm not sure, though. I think it would be too easy to spend the money if I have the debit card and I'm really trying to save some for Christmas. Still undecided and my wallet is so full of debit cards from different websites and my couple banks, that I'm just not sure I want to add another one!

I know what you mean about having several debit cards! This would have been number 5 for me, except that I just recently closed one bank account (finally!). That was a bank in Maryland and I moved to Virginia last year, so I thought it was about time to close that account. (It only took me a year and a half. LOL) I might take singout's suggestion and pamper myself, or I might go perusing the stores to see if I can buy an early Christmas gift. I hate shopping after Thanksgiving! The stores are always packed. I tried going out on Black Friday once... NEVER AGAIN!!! People are NUTS on Black Friday! So, if I can get a little gift or two out of the way now, it'll mean that much less shopping to do later. Hmmm... decisions, decisions!

I have one, and I hardly ever use it. Maybe if I start making money here or on ehow I will, but right now not. I think if you leave yours at home, then you will build up some funds for Christmas. Also, going to get Christmas gifts early is a great idea. If you know what you want, definitely get them now or if they go on sale.

I never really thought about getting a debit card from PayPal...usually what I do is transfer whatever money I have in my Paypal account into my bank account that way I can use my regular credit/debit ATM card. I never carry my card with me unless I know for sure I'm going to use it...Alas though..usually whatever money I get in my paypay account usually goes to paying for really "exciting" things...uh, like bills...LOL

I don't have a paypal debit card because I live in the Philippines and paypal isn't that big here. I wish I had one though so that I can easily spend my online earnings. Anyway, more websites nowadays are accepting direct payments from PayPal which is great because I can do online shopping. :) And I think it's really nice of you to want to buy gifts for other people. I might consider buying something for my family, but I come first! Haha! :) I'll treat myself to something I really want then I'll buy something for everyone else. :)

I don't if debit a debit card by paypal is available here.. But if it is, I would get one. It would be easier to access your money at your paypal account if you have a debit card. You can leave it if you have cash or other debit card. I only use paypal for online transactions..

My wife has one, and she doesn't regret it at all. It makes it easier for her to spend money, that doesn't have to come out of our household budget which is a plus. She has the credit card account with them as well, so it adds even more protection for us when we are purchasing things and decide we don't like the purchase. Regarding the temptation to spend, don't carry the card with you. Leave it locked up in a safe at home. That way you won't have access to it then and will be less likely to use it, except when making purchases online.

I have yet to accumulate enough money in my paypal to consider using the affliated debit card. I am thinking about applying for one though. Still pondering over whether I should or not. Are there any fees to be paid on an annual basis?

That is good news indeed. I sure hope I can accumulate enough to start using the card as a form of spending money! Oh boy oh boy! Some thing to look forward to and achieve!

No, the paypal debit card is totally free. There are no hidden fees associated with it. Every penny you earn is available to spend, even if it sits there for 10 years!

I decided not to get a debit card. I like to see where my money goes, like with a check. I'm less apt to use it if I have to write a check. So I leave my money in PayPal until I want to transfer it to my bank. I had rather do that than have a debit card that I may lose or use too much. I don't even have a debit card from my bank. If I need extra money, I just go by their ATM.

My sister has a debit card through paypal and she loves it. I think you just have to be reasonable with it and know ahead of time before you go out how much you have available on it. She does a lot of Ebay stuff and usually always gets payments through a paypal so it's a faster way to access her money instead of waiting the 3-5 days it takes to wire transfer it to your bank account. If you are worried about spending it all in one place, before you go out, look how much you have and decide how much you want to spend. Then put it in the back of your wallet so it's not as easily seen, and only take it out when you are getting one of the things on your list that you wanted to buy with your paypal money. :o) Good luck and have fun shopping!!

So far, I've managed to avoid using it. I think I'll do okay with it; I've always been good with money. I keep thinking about how much I have and want to add more to it before I start spending it, although I'll probably start soon because I like to get my Christmas shopping done before Thanksgiving. I hate that 'Christmas rush' and trying to find that perfect gift with frenzied shoppers all around me. I try very hard to keep the spirit of Christmas alive; peace and good will toward men.

I have considered geting one but I was unsure because I never have much money in my paypal account anyways. So I just use the money there and go to ebay or somethinig and order stuff from there. I am not sure but I think I remembered my husband telling me that he thinks that I should try to get one but I will give it some thought.
