This is not the first time I have heard this about Obama. But then I've heard this about many Presidents and other world leaders. My cousin called to warn my mother and I not to vote for Obama because he is the Anti-Christ and he's going to issue in the New World Order. Aside from thinking that it's just plain crazy, if you believe in the whole Book of Revelations and the Anti-Christ thing, then you understand that it is prophecy and it has to happen. So wether the Anti-Christ is Obama or McCain or Bush or Cheney or whomever, if you are strong in your own faith than why should you fear the Anti-Christ. Isn't God all powerful? Isn't it suppose to happen? Doesn't that mean that you are closer to the return of your Savior? So if you truly fear the Anti-Christ, maybe you better check your own faith in God. Must not be too strong. That is just my take on it, putting all insults about one candidate or another aside.

Prophecy is what will happen is no one steps in to change it - I see Revelations as a warning to us to be aware that such a person will exist and that we must be vigilant in making sure that he/she is not given the power to destroy the world.

I don't know about being the Anti-Christ, but I am concerned that he seems to be anticipating much more power as President than our Constitution allows. It seems to me that he is anticipating more of a King or Emperor position, rather than the President of a Democracy!

Of course Obama is not going to be the Anti-Christ. Demonising political opponents really doesn't help at all here. It's just more of the stupidity that we have had constantly been hearing in this campaign. Nor is McCain the Anti-Christ either, the whole thing is nonsense.
As far as Obama wanting to gather up more powers for himself, I think that unlikely. Why? Because after the Bush experience where this President, egged on by his VP, believed in creating an executive presidency with more powers outwith the scrutiny of congress, there is now a reaction amongst members of congress, both Dem and Rep, against this.
We can now see this regarding the debate on the bail-out package. Congress knows that it failed to scrutinise Bush effectively earlier on and quite frankly, in view of past experience, is much more wary of swallowing what he says and jumping to his orders (pass this legislation quickly, etc).
I think any new President who thinks he can recreate the atmosphere of the early Bush years when Bush used the bully pulpit after 9/11 to cajole congress to do his bidding, will be in for a nasty surprise. I think we are now seeing congress, both Dem and Rep, reasserting its independence from the executive branch and being much more determined to scrutinise the President and his advisers. And that I believe can only be a very good thing for executive power should always be distrusted, it is the perrenial enemy of the people!

newton,
Were you sleeping when McCain said that if he was president he would fire the SEC director? The president doesn't have the power to do that. And, I was being nice because he didn't call it the SEC he made a gaffe.

The USA and the whole world is in difficult times right now with the financial upheaval and energy crisis. It is easy to feel powerless in the face of such problems that have the potential to cause cataclysmic changes. We know the
antichrist will arise in a time of unprecedented upheaval internationally and appear to be a problem solver. He will be a great orator and be able to sway people's opinions easily.
He will be crafty and manipulative. But no one knows who it will be. In times past many people have thought the antichrist was rising and that they knew who it was. The Lord is the only one who knows who it is and when he will arise to power. It could be anyone. As Christians, we are supposed to be about the Lord's business every day and trust when the end times come he will carry us through them.
