Why do Crickets make noise at night??

At 8am new york time and was just in time for work and i heard a very noisy cricket at my cubicle. I thought crickets are suppose to make their noise at night? So here after 3 hours and the cricket is still making noise. Oh well I might as well enjoy it, makes me feel like I'm out in the wilderness ha ha ha..

I think I heard somewhere that only the male cricket makes the chirping sound to attract a mate. I don't think it matters what time of day it is. They can get quite loud. It is kinda nice though. It does feel like being out in the wilderness. Like camping...
