I was surprised to hear that US has the most Rice export, cause I think Americans don't eat rice at all. All the people in our office eat sandwiches or pizza, but only I eat rice. I was wondering why US plant so many rice but its people din't eat them at all. Are all the rice that US produce is for export?
p.s. I like all kind of rice - rice, brown rice, fried rice ..., what do you like? :)

Rice production in the United States started in the Carolinas and Georgia before the by 1690, growers were producing it in large quantities. The rice seeds seem to have come from Madagascar at that time. The United States produces 38.6 percent of the rice and exports 2.75 percent. Thailand exports more rice than the United States does at 5.8% Rice consumption in the United States is not something that has began with people coming from Asia. I have been eating rice all my life. When I was little we had rice with sugar, cinnamon and milk for breakfast. My grandmother made rice pudding often for dessert. now I fix it in differnt ways.

We eat rice every once in a while for dinner. I always make spanish rice when we have tacos. Everyone in the family loves Spanish Rice. I am not big on just eating rice without something on top of it.

I love rice! We eat rice several times a week with meals. I don't think that most 'standard' Americans eat a lot of rice, but we do have a LOT of areas with a high incidence of cultures that eat LOTS of rice. Our 'little Korea' has several markets where we go to buy the big sacks of rice, and I always see regular people with huge flats filled with rice.
It's tasty stuff and I'd definitely eat it over pizza every day for lunch!

Interesting point...The traditional Paddy field method of rice growing isn't what you'd usually associate with the Continental US,is it?..(Is the Rice Actually produced there,or being processed after import from somewhere else?) I was listening to the radio yesterday here in Ireland, and a talk radio show was discussing labelling of products and how the terminology "Made in Ireland" was defined-IIRC, the definition worked out as something like "Where significant value has been added to an item during production confers "Ownership" of a product"-so ,Imported wheat made into bread makes the bread a local product.I know some of the Long grain rice I buy in supermarkets here is labelled "American Rice"..but there has to be a good domestic market for rice in the US,with the amount of Ethnic foods available in restaurants-Chinese,Japanese,Mexican,Indian,etc..
I enjoy rice with many dishes in many forms-boiled,fried,in puddings, etc!

We use rice all the time with our chicken cheesy rice bakes or just with some salt and butter etc etc. It is actually something we use many different forms of all the time especially with dinners.

My daughter and I are the only ones in the family who loves eating rice. I make us a rice dinner about 5 times out of the week. I try to mix up the way I make it so she doesn't get bored with the same old rice. But some Americans do love and eat rice!
