I Don't Understand People Sometimes!!!!

I just posted that the family farm has been sold...
Well, about a month ago we had an auction sale for some of the furniture my parents weren't going to need and all the big machinery etc.
It went O.K considering it rained all day and there was another sale in the area the same day. The big stuff went O.K but the prices still could have been a bit higher...
However, that is not my reason for this discussion!
Some things from the household goods did not sell at all as he could not get a bid on them of even a dollar....
My Mom had put some of her fancy china cups and saucers (Made in England) in the sale and they were not bid on...
Well, I went out to get them after it was done and they were gone along with a few other things
People actually took our things without offering us any money!!
These cups would have been worth money in the right sale environment...
This totally took my parents and I off guard and we were very upset by it but you have to move on...
What are your thoughts on this?
Have you ever heard of or had anything like this happen to you?
What are your thoughts on where this world is headed....
I'm baffled by people and their values these days!

This is pretty sad just shows how some of th human race is a waste of oxygen space. When we were kids we had a yard sale to earn money to go to camp. I mean we had people give us stuff to sell to help. We had a ton of mens pants. Nice ones and we were only selling them for 10 cents a pair we had a couple guys come in and they paid for a couple pairs and when they were outside the yard we noticed they each had on several pairs. We had to let it go because we were just kids and well didn't want to chase them. Sad sad world we live in. As for people and their values sorry to say there are some out there that don't have any values. If they stole those wonder who else they have stolen from in the area.

O.K now that is the height of lowness when people would steel from children!!!
That is terrible! I too feel that these individuals probably make a habit of going to these estate sales and the like and once they assess the situation they look for their break...I feel really sorry for them really and hope that they no longer get away with this type of behavior!

Hi heavens,
It's good to see you're on here, even though the circumstances of this discussion aren't good. My day has been totally changed, by the way. I got a phone message later on yesterday, and so I didn't have to 'put in my appearance today.' In fact, I'm totally done, so no more of this for me (at least for now). What happened to your mom's china cups, etc., is utterly disgusting. I just don't get people (anymore). Were there a lot of strangers to your family, at this sale? I can't believe local people that are known to you, would do such a thing.
I'm having a bad day here, along the lines of this topic, actually. I'll either be starting a discussion with some 'good news' later, or some 'not good at all news.' I have to wait approximately another ninety minutes, to find out the outcome. I'd love to say I believe it'll be positive, but am not feeling 'a good vibe' about this. I'm feeling quite discouraged, and jaded, instead. I sincerely hope I'm wrong, and I know you would hope this too. I'm sorry I'm being so cryptic here, but this isn't the place to go into this (not in your topic, I mean). Take care, and Hugs to you.

Thanks so much for the hug, Grandpa Bob. I can definitely use it! Hugs right back at you.
Thanks heavens. I think it's just as well I didn't have to go yesterday, under the circumstances. I thought I'd 'know' how to start my discussion here by now, but the outcome of the situation is still pending. I'll be starting it for sure by tomorrow evening. Hugs again.

If the auction was held by a company,
there should have been an inventory done.
if so compare the list to their sales reciepts and inventory.
This would show what should be left.
I'd check into this company personally.
They may have thieves working for them.
Happened recently here in Minnesota.
A large ring was broken up after an estate sale had items disappear as well.
Just my feelings is that there was a thief among the employees of the auction co.
If there was an inventory that compant should be responsible for missing/lost/stolen items.

We do have an itemized list of the items sold and the prices we got for those items...I actually saw him try to sell the cups and was sure he said no sale when all was said and done but then Mom came and got me in the middle saying that there was an Aunt in the house whom I hadn't seen since my wedding (Six yesr) so Ileft for a bit to go and see her. A friend of ours said she saw two women taking some bowls and things out of the barn after and moving quickly to do so...I think it was them that took the cups but we do not know these women and I did not personally witness this myself!
The only staff the Auctioneer had was a man who was with him all day and two office staff who spent the day taking peoples money and keeping records etc. I know it was none of his staff!
It's a really sad thing but we know that we received no money for these items!!

I've never had anything taken like that before. Was it the people doing the auction for you that took it or was it the bidders that took your stuff and didn't give any money for it? That would make me mad no matter who it was that took it. That is stealing from you. I know it was there to be bid on but it wasn't bid on so it should have went back to your family. It just makes me so mad when people take things that don't belong to them.

No it wasn't bid on and it should have came back to us but while the auction was still underway in a different area of the farm I guess people decided to help themselves...It is hard to monitor over three hundred people!!
Very sad indeed!

Did you get to see who did it? you could probably talk them into returning those items. If not then they are downright thieves, you should report them to the police. Be careful when you do sale like that just like garage sale, don't leave the items alone outside.

No we didn't see who did it but a friend of ours saw some suspicious women...However, she did not know the people!
There were over 300 people at this sale!
There was no way we could have monitored all those people!!!

A very sad situation!
Maybe a place like Ebay would have
attracted bidders for smaller items
like the china cups.

Yeah but my parents are not into computers at all...Besides the fact that it wasn't necessarily the money that was important but My Mom is trying to downsize and was just irrationally getting rid of things!!
She regrets not keeping the cups now!

I can't believe people would just take your family's things like that. The fact that they didn't bid on them in the first place is very suspicious. How could they just assume that because the items didn't sell, they were free for the taking? Did you do this auction yourself, or did you have it at an auction house or something? I am just wondering how anyone was allowed to steal your stuff. I think it's a shame, I'm very sorry that happened to your family!

The Auctioneer came to the Farm and brought his staff with him...They always do it this way with Farm sales! We know it was not him or the staff that did this...It was one of the over three hundred people who attended the sale! It really is unbelievable what people do these days!

many people are thieves and just are horrible . I have had many things taken from me and every time it makes me feel violated and hurt . I am sorry you had to deal with such a horrible thing . I think if people could feel the feelings that they have created , themselves the world would be a bit different . I hope you are feeling better .

Thanks blackcatbetty and Welcome to My Lot!
I had my purse stolen from the car two years ago and that sure was terrible!
These are just cups and maybe one day we will find some more to purchase at a good price otherwise, it is fine now...You can't change what has happened!
