Yes, indeed this is very common - girl friend and boy friend. Why are people so concious about this? Why we can't simply become friends? Or, do men take pride in having a girl friend?
I believe we are compelled by two things - one, our own understanding about the terminology and two, our ardent belief in some kind of a social norm or tradition. That girls can not become any thing other than a beloved and that one day one would fall in love with the girl friend and so on and so forth. Cant we change this situation? Can't we behave in plain and simple manner as we do with a boy? It is a million doller question. Shall we debate this issue which is the roots of many a complications?
