When I cook, I tend to reach for the same spices; lemon pepper, garlic, onion, oregano (italian seasoning). I stick with these because I know I and the family like them. Are there any suggestions for new spices to try out keeping in mind picky eaters. Any suggestions?

hi amandab, my friend . when we cook we use a combination of spices everytime we cook and everytime we cook there are different spices all together to match the taste of that item which is being cooked. like in general we add turmeric powder, red chilli, salt and cumin . this is something that you can say as a standard part in our cooking. but sometime i add oregano, sometime garlic flakes, sometime pepperino powder or flakes sometimes fennel seeds, some times asofoetida( this item also , i add to moist of the items that i cook), fenugreek seeds, fenugreek powder, fenugreek leaves. i love the aroma of it.i love to add powder of black pepper, cloves big cardamom grounded together. i love its aroma and the taste is also very rich when we addd this powder to any of my veg.

i like to use fajita seasoning and seasoned salt. Or sometimes just plain salt and pepper do the trick. You can also try some white pepper or peppercorns in a pepper grinder. I use fajita seasoning on chicken and pork chops. and sometimes a dash of cajun is good on chicken and pork too.

I really lie cooking with different herbs and spices. I like sage, thyme and rosemary with chicken dishes. I mix sage thyme basil and rosemary in my flour for frying chicken and chicken gravy. Basil is also good with chicken and I like to put in my mashed potatoes to give them a different flavor. Curry is good with baked chicken and rice.I also like to cook with garlic in may dishes. A little cinnamon is good in chili. That's all I can think of right now.

I have a seasoning that is called Nature's Seasoning, it is sold in most stores and what it basically is is all the spices, garlic, onion, etc together in one bottle. It does add quite a bit of season to the food, we use it on just about ever dish that I cook. I am one to pick up a new seasoning at the store to try it out. The other day I was in a store where they had a whole shelf full of spices which cost quite a bit if bought off the spice shelf and they was all marked down to like $.49 so I got all that I could find that I didn't have. I do a lot of recipes off the internet always looking for something new to make for dinner and it always calls for spices you don't have so I like to keep as many on hand as I can.

I tend to use mostly garlic, lemon pepper, sea salt and crushed red pepper. I also use roasted almonds. I buy them sliced and then crunch them into pieces and roast them in a pan until they are light brown. You can smell when they are roasted. I like to add the almonds to stir fry especially. Or I sprinkle them on top of fish with whatever other coating I am using.

Hi amandab, welcome to myLot! Try dill. It's not so strong and is very good on veges with butter and even lemon. I use Adobo quite often. It is an all purpose Spanish style seasoning. It's good to season just about anything. I use it in rice dishes, on chicken, and fish. I really think the picky eaters will like it. Good luck!
