Hello! So, some of you know that I'm having problems at work...I'm not going to get into that again so if you didn't know...now you do :P lol. So I've been looking into a lot of different jobs; one thing I'm considering is being a Real Estate Agent...I'm always looking up houses on my nights off--seeing what's for sale, I really enjoy looking at houses for sale (and yearning for them ;P lol). So i'm just wondering if anyone here works as a real estate agent, or knows anything about it...could you tell me as much as you know about it. Everything that they have to do...I'm looking for whatever info I can get! :) Thanks

In my state, you have to be certified and take a real estate agent course. Our college offers a short course every year. I would start by seeing if there are any openings for an agent in your area and take the course.

But I do agree with the people above, this is a bad time to go into real estate unless you can find a niche market. Rich people are still buying and selling, but the poor and middle class aren't. We had two sales papers for houses in our area, one was for regular people and the other was for the rich. Used to be the one for the rich was 10 pages long and 30 pages for the rest of us. Now it is reversed and some months, they don't bother to print one for the rest of us.

Hi Lily...mmmm...Real Estate agent?....in these times? The real estate business is not exactly the greatest aspiration to go for when so many homes are going into foreclosure, and hardly anyone is buying homes now. With this economic fiasco that is going on, it may be harder for people to get the financing to get a home.

I am not a real estate person but have a friend who is and she loves it. The money is good but does require lots of hard work and long hours. You might be sitting at a house you are listing on a Sunday and waiting for potential buyers to stop by and then again nobody might get the urge to shop for homes. These open houses can be very time consuming on the agent's part. Last year our area had problems with some guy who went to an open house and raped the agent. He was finally caught so it can be dangerous. I believe this happened twice. Need to be aware of your surroundings and be cautious.

Hi Lily, I don't work as a real estate agent but I have just sold my house. It took twelve months to sell it and I had to sell it at a hugh loss. From what I read in the news and listen to on tv, the housing market has gone bust. My son's mother-in-law is living in Florida and she is a realtor. I was talking to her on the phone last week and she told me that she hasn't sold a house in over 18 months. I guess it is the same all over the world. Maybe when the market picks up again you could try your hand at being an estate agent but in the meantime, I think you should keep your options open.
