No More Credit Cards!

I am very happy today as it is official that I have no more credit cards. I have canceled all my credit cards and now I only use cash and debit cards for my spending.
I used to have the Classic, Gold and Platinum Visa and Mastercards from a few different banks. I got my first credit card back in 1993 and until yesterday, that card was still active. Finally, I figured out that if I keep on paying minimum monthly payments for my card, I would never be able to pay up all my debts forever. That would take my whole life paying with no end.
What are the problems with credit cards? Firstly, if you always pay the minimum amount every month, you will be charged with a heavy interest rate on the unpaid balance. Over here the lowest rate is 18% per annum. That is a lot!
Secondly, you would always want to spend the money that you do not have and in the end you have to use the money that you have to pay for your credit card bills and sooner or later, you would notice that you would be paying and paying and have nothing left for saving.
Now, restricted to cash and debit cards, I am forced to manage my cash flow and make sure that I have some money saved for the rainy days.
What do you think of that? I would love to read your feedback on this. Cheers!

Having credit card is not that bad as long as you know how to use it properly. You will not be charge of any interest if you don't using it. If you spend too much and not able to pay your credits on due date then you will paying interest. All you need is to managed your credits and money properly and self-control for spending lolz.

If you have a credit card you are responsible for using it properly, then if you failed to do that, then you end up paying lots of bills plus the interest.
I got my new credit card, what's nice is they don't give you any interest if you paid it on time of the due date. If your not going to use it, you'll not be charge.
The reason why i get credit card is for incase of emergency. I got two debit card too which is more ideal to use coz you don't need to pay interest, so you can manage your money very well. All we need to do is self-control in spending. Happy posting.

Hi,
There are pro and contra when using any credit card or debit card or any other debt card, For me, before I'm using a credit card, i must make sure i can pay the debt amount back quickly as i can. Usually when i'm going to shopping groceries, i didn't bring too much cash money, first' it's about my security, we didn't know when someone will follow us and try to rob when they see we bring too much money, i'm aware about it. After paying groceries with credit card, i'll go to ATM machine and pay the amount back.
Sometime when i need to stay in hotel or resort for my work, i'll use my credit card to pay the fee, but it's OK for me cause i can pay it back when i claim from my office. It's fine using a credit card if you know how to manage your financial account. My wife and I, have our own financial account, just a simple account create from Excel doc. From it we will know how our financial goes to. And if we want to buy anything like TV, refrigerator or other appliances, we will find a zero interest payment store and make sure we can pay the amount monthly. It is a dicipline act that we must follow.
I also got a debit card, but i didn't try it wisely. This debit card need enough money to make a payment, as example, when i buy petrol in pump station for $50, they'll deduct $150 first, then will repay $100 back to your debit account 1 day after. If, i only have $50 in my debit card, how i can buy petrol when there is no ATM machine to get cash?. Huh.. that is the problem. However, when you buy other thing by using debit card, there is no problem at all. No need to bring cash and no worry about losing your money when you misplace it.
I think credit card or debit card that you are using right now, It's just how you can manage your financial, That's all.. It's just my opinion..

If not used prudently, credit cards can be very dangerous! I have 2 credit cards that I use for everything. One credit card gives me 1% cash back on my purchases and the other one give me 5% back on my gas purchases. I use the credit cards for everything, leave my money in the bank and transfer my payment when it's due. I pay my entire balance each month so there's no interest to pay. I know how much money I have and I don't go over it.

Hi there, it's very expensive to have so many cards! I only have one now and I use it to make big purchases but I'm thinking of canceling my account as well. Many financial analysts reiterate that paying by cash is the best way to curb overspending. :) SO that's a really good decision you made today. I'm proud of you man. Just make sure that you don't carry too much money in your wallet otherwise you'll end up spending a lot still...

Yes, you are right. I have never known how much money I have since I get my first credit card. Though the credit card is very convenient when paying, but you will feel that these money expended is not yours. Unfortunately, on a same day every month, you will be astonished that you have owed bank so much money!

I love the prepaid card, either visa or mastercard Netspend.Sometimes I get a physic feeling and this company will go a long way. They afford alot of spending freedom for people with bad credit! You can also pay your bills online, direct deposit, send a friend some money, link it to your cellphone etc.Now they have a savings account feature that is accompanied on your card, use it anywhere and it looks no different.

Hello Beruang,
If you know how to manage your account and credit cards you will have few problems. The rule is don't spend more than what you earn. Live within your means. In case of credit cards, you have one month to pay all your debt. After that it earn interest. So you list all the thing you bought using your credit card and alllocate money to pay for it when you bill arrive. Don't leave anythin, pay all the balance at once so it won't earn interest. I also have only one credit card because you need it. It is becoming necessity now to have a credit card, specially when you travel. Just like your debit card and cash now. Treat credit card like it and you won't fall in debt. Good luck and good decision you have in eliminating all your debt.
Regards.

Bank is something funny. It seems that banks can do us much good for us with so much money there. However, the interest we pay can do us more harm than good. I must be cautious when dealing with the finantial problem in bank. Giving the money to the bank is so ridiculous for I even haven't used the credit card.I'm glad I can meet one who have the same idea with me.

Congratulations with destroying your creditcards! Ofcourse, I'm meaning this in a positive way, because I had a Mastercard on my fathers name as well, which I was allowed to use til' an amount of 5000 Euros. Well ofcourse, this was the worst thing that could happen, cos' I was only 15 years old, which means I don't know how to spend money. All the 5000 euros went away to stupid little things and games that I bought..i've just thrown all that money away! Nowadays, when I'm thinking back about it, I just feel ashamed that I could do something like that..
That's why I always tell everyone that they shouldn't use, or get a creditcard. Even if it would be for emergencies, it still is a irresponsible thing, because you can spend the money that we don't even have yet! Same thing I am thinking about loaning money from some company, because you will need to pay big money back to them, in usually 5 years..
I always recommend to just WAIT, with buying or spending something that you want, because saving is much and much better. There are even many advantages in it, because in the loop of time the prices will decrease, and you will be able to buy it for a better price, or maybe you don't want it even more!
You should always watch out and write down how much money you can spend, what you need to pay, and what you wanna keep aside for bills. At least, this is what I always do !

erhm, I don't quite understand you..are you talking about how I've got rid of those 5000 euros dept from my creditcard? Well, it was fast paid by my father..but still I had to pay him back every single cent! so I've been working my butt off to pay him back.. I've actually been working 7 days in a week1 but luckily I could pay him faster back then I expected, thanks to working at night..In 3 months I was able to pay him back the 5000 euros! If you were talking about something else, then please put your question back again, but then with more information. Like on what part of my respond you are talking about, you know?:)
Thanks in advance!

beruang is correct about converting your balance into term loans! there's no immediate solution to the problem unless you have "windfall" funds enough to pay all your credit card bills.
now here's a tip to converting to term loans if you are on a tight budget. when you convert to term loans, the bank fixes an amount with lower interest, as your monthly amortization for a period of time until you fully amortize your loan. since you are on a tight budget, and wouldnt have excess funds, you should choose an amount just about equal (or a little more) than the "minimum" you pay on your present credit card (as this is only the amount you can afford on your budget to set aside for loan servicing)and then you should stop using your credit card. i guess there is no other way to go.
hope this helps.

It's not easy. I save all my bonus and commissions to pay for the cards. The other option is to negotiate directly with the bank to convert the credit card debts to term loan so that you could extend the payment period with less interest. Some banks would allow such thing. Go and check with the bank.
