I have to see a surgeon

Warning... this can be TMI. I have had severe pain and blood with every BM since the birth of my son 8 months ago. It hurts for hours after, making it impossible to find a comfortable position for the remainder of the day. I've become terrified to use the bathroom, and hold off as long as I possibly can. Well yesterday my husband happened to call from work at the peak of my pain, while I was in tears it was so bad. So he came home from work and ordered me to finally see a doctor. I was in far too much pain for the doctor to examine the area, although she has a couple guesses as to what the problem can be. She did her best to look and couldn't see the problem. Anyways, I ended up with a referral to see a rectal surgeon! OMG just the sound of it is painful. I made the appointment for about a week away, but I am so not looking forward to it. I sure hope they knock me out before trying to examine me. Have you ever had to go through this? How did it turn out?

I was really shocked to hear that you have been having this for so long and I really hope that it all turns all right and they can stop this soon. I have never had to have an examination of that area before and I would hope that they would knock me out first too.

It wouldn't bother me to have the exam in that region if there were no pain already. Sure the exam would be uncomfortable, but let me tell you... twice now a doctor has tried to examine that region to see what my problem is and I screamed bloody murder. The first time was months ago... back in like June, and I was prescribed a hemmerhoid medicine which did no good at all. The second time was yesterday and the entire area was very tender. When I began shouting from pain she said she wasn't even near the problem area yet.

I really feel for you, do you have one of those cushions with a hole in, they can sometimes be a bit of a help when it comes to sitting down with bum pain.

No I don't. I wonder if it would do any good.

I haven't gone through any rectal examinations or surgeries so I won't be much of help to you. But I really hope your appointment will turn out just fine and that nothing severe will be detected. Be strong. You can do this! ^_^

Thanks. I think it is just a very nasty hemmerhoid that won't go away, but I am afraid of the exams and treatment for it. But I have to remind myself that once the treatment has begun, it will only be a matter of time before the pain is gone forever.

Keep being positive. ^_^ That's probably the case. I remember my dad also had very bad case of hemorrhoid when I was still a little kid, my dad later told me he actually lost consciousness because he had lost a lot of blood in the bathroom, he was rushed to the hospital by my mom and they had to do immediate surgery. He also said that he was very lucky 'cause his colon was badly ruptured and he probably wouldn't have made it if not for my mom. I don't want to scare you or anything, I just got concerned when you mentioned hemorrhoid, Im no expert but I think it's not something to be taken lightly. I do hope you get well very soon!! ^_^

Most hemmerhoids clear up on their own. I remember having one right after my son was born, I could feel it because it was on the outside, and it was not painful. Within a week or so it was gone, but the internal pain is there now, and has been for months. Sometimes it gets a little better, but it never fully goes away. I don't think mine is as bad as your father's, but I will find out when I see my doctor next week.

I have never had to see anyone for that type of problem. I can't even imagine how uncomfortable you have been. You poor thing living with it for 8 months. Maybe when you go see the rectal surgeon he will be willing to numb you up before he examines you. It would not hurt to ask anyway. Good luck!

Oh yeah, I did not even think about the pain that the actual numbing will cause. Maybe they can do a topical numbing stuff first so the needle will not hurt so much.

One of my fears is that the numbing will hurt as well. I once had a cyst on the upper area of my buttocks, and they had to lance it. Well they numbed the area first.... with a novicaine needle. It was not the least bit comfortable, and I can't imagine how difficult this is going to be.

Goodness! You've suffered like this for 8 months without seeing a doctor already?! Embarrassing and painful though it may be, but I'm sure seeing this surgeon will sort everything out. It's really great that you have a referral to see a specialist organised. Best of luck with it.

Well fingers crossed that it'll all be sorted out soon.

It doesn't really feel like it's been 8 months though. And it's not a constant pain... it's only a pain on days I have to go, lol. Which is why I'm trying very hard not to go everyday, unfortunatly that's probably only making matters worse.
