yahoo and google?

Both are very useful if you need information on research, problems in anything, people you want to find, almost anything that you can think off. But who has the most thorough or very informative search engine, actually i have my email account at yahoo but i search on google. And at times i used google and when i try to used yahoo the info will show is the almost same, and this search engines are they just the same and created by one company? Im just curious because for me, i used it every day and i want to get some idea about it.
