Gratefulness

When we express thanks throughout the day it makes a huge difference in our attitudes, thus making us mentally and emotionally healthier. Being thankful for a good parking spot, hitting all the green lights are small examples of the things we can show gratitude for each day. When we start with the small and simple things, it is much easier to be thankful for the larger things that come into our lives. It feels great to be able to appreciate the best things in life whether they come in big packages or in small packages...

I agree with you that being grateful for all things that make a positive difference to us makes us emotionally healthier. It is a lot easier to be thankful for things when you begin to appreciate all the small and simple things. I do think though that when you are having a difficult time it is a lot easier to forget the positive things and concentrate on the negative things and this is when you can start feeling really depressed. At the beginning of the year, after a certain incident I became quite depressed and ended up staying in my room concentrating on the negative aspects. This was making me worse and at some points I couldn't even believe there was a positive side. Thankfully, with the help of some good friends and my boyfriend I managed to get out of the dark hole I had created and over time have become a lot happier again. Although I still have days where I do start to feel like that again I can now concentrate on all the positive aspects of my life to pull me through them and I have started to appreciate things a lot more.

I make it a point to appreciated every gesture which is intended towards me and for my welfare. I do not forget to convey my thanks to the person, who had done favour(s) to me, sometimes out of the way. I always feel a sense of gratitude towards him and I do not erase his good deeds from my memory. I try my best, whenever an opportunity arises, to repay the favours done to me. We must always feel thankful for the noble and kind souls who come forward to help us in our hour of need without any selfish motive. Good Post!!

Yes, inasmuch as we would feel good when our efforts are appreciated, it would be nice to express our appreciation for things done for us as well...

Such true words that you speak. Thank you for this lovely reminder. Each day should be seen as a blessing with much to be thankful for. I must say that as a rule I am generally thankful for all that I have. It might not seem a lot to some but to me I have all that I need and that is all that it matters. I think having children really helps people appreciate the smallest things in life ~ may in every way this be a special day ~

Oh I'm always thankful with everything that I have. Even for things that I am scarce of. Whenever I pray before going to bed, I just thank God and never ask for anything more. I know God knows what I need and so I trust Him that He will provide for me.

Hi dolce, that is quite true. Sometimes I stop and think about all the things that I should be grateful for when I start feeling sorry for myself. I remember that there are others that are alot less fortunate than I am and I should be alot more grateful for the things I have and that I can do. I have fairly good health compared to some others and I can still get around and do the things that I need to do on my own so that is reason enough to be happy and grateful. I am not as appreciative as I should be and I do have to think about this more often and say thank you to the people who do help me like my mom. In fact, when I finish typing this I am going to write her a card and tell her just how I feel! Thanks dolce for getting me to remember just what I should be thinking about on my own~Thanks for that extra little push~ Your friend, Opal

You are right. One feels greatly relieved when one says thanks.I just want to add that I feel greatly relieved when I ever thank for God for his wonderful creation and He created us to enjoy his creation and to be part of His creation. Do you feel the same.

I totally agree. I remember just the other day I thought I was going to be late for a doctor appointment. But I hit every green light and got there right on time. I said thank you Lord! He gets me through the big things by showing me how much He cares about the little things.

What a good point dolce. I do find the same to be true. I try as to be as positive as I can, without going over the top. I don't want to be fake. I hate those days when I'm in a funk and just can't seem to be grateful for everything I have.

Amen. The Bible reminds us to be thankful in all circumstances (not necessarily FOR all circumstances). Remembering to be thankful helps us remember the little things that we could otherwise take for granted.

By the way....I once heard a speaker ask, "Why do people call traffic lights 'stop lights'? They have three colors and three purposes. Why doesn't someone call them caution lights? Or better still, go lights? They have 1/3 the chance of being a go light or a stop light. Why concentrate on the negative." I've remembered that ever since, and sometimes I do call them "go lights" or "green lights" instead of "red lights". But mostly, now, I call them traffic lights.

don't you like your husband? If so, why?
27 Sep 08
Hi dolce_vita78, Its not the case of not liking my husband, when you have him 24/7 under your feet and not doing much to help you round the house, you get really annoyed and all he does is mess about with his bikde and messing the house when you have just cleaned it, you'll want him gone for a day for peace and quiet, that is all I'm saying, and ofcouse I love my husband but that is beside the point.
