here in my country there was a time where people use MSG to add taste to their meals or to add flavors. And there has been research and studies that MSG is not good, now here in our market there are still flavorings and they say it is MSG free. We use shrimp cubes, pork cubes, etc to give or add meat taste. We also have powdered flavorings (like tamarind soup flavorings) How about you? Do you use food flavorings?

The only things I add to food for flavoring are good old herbs...like parsley, basil, pepper..no salt, not really into too much salt. Yes, I've been aware for a long time how bad MSG is for a person and once I had heard about it stopped using anything with it

Actually, yes, I used these things, I know that it is not good and unhealthy but I can't get the right flavor and taste on the food that I cooked without adding these flavors. The food was taste good, but kinda the taste were incomplete and when I add these flavorings like aji-ginisa flavor mix, it really make the food even more tastier.

i do use these ready-made products such as flavour cubes, soup bases, etc.. i still prefer the natural items but because i am at a place with limited resources (philippine native ingredients), i resource to the above shortcuts.. i don't add msg anymore as the above already contains msg.. well msg is proven to block the signal going to the brain, thus telling us to eat more even though we are already full.. this is the reverse of what cinnammon or capsicum (in chili) tells our brain..

I still use MSG for some food that needed some flavor enhancement. So far i never had any health issues.Almost all food have flavorings and preservatives. But i believe for as long as you didnt use too much of MSG on the food then it is fine. A lot of people before use it and until now they are still healthy. So i believe it is a matter of watching on the food you eat and your diet that really matters.

when i was growing up we use MSG or better know as vetsin then studies about it popped up then we gave up MSG, so now if i eat foods with too much MSG my stomach goes crazy. i don't use flavor enhancers too. the food taste good if there is enough spices and salt.

Well in my place even now it is a flow , i mean the taste enhancer usage is in flow .We use Aji-no-motto , it is an amino acid which is added to the food items ( any kind) makes the taste buds to feel that the food is tasty even if it is not so! The drawback is people have researched and found that it is a carcinogen ( cancer causing reagent ) .No step has been taken to stop this people have started using this widely some are even using it daily in their food which is really a danger but no body has come forward to ban it!! When my dad cooks he adds this flavor , so i advice him not to add , but he never listen me.. of course the food will taste good..

MSG is very common almost everywhere around the world, including singapore.. I guess, we cant do without MSG in our food, or else the food will be too tasteless for us especially when we have gotten used to the taste of food ^_^ UNless when we are cooking at home, we will try not to add any MSG in our food, instead we used meat taste for soup, and garlic for flavorings ^_^

I don't use enhancers as much as possible, and yeah in some case you really can't avoid it but there are food establishments here who put so much MSG

Some people have a reaction to MSG. It is probably a good choice to avoid it. I don't know of any major problems, but my sister will get a migraine from it.

Yes I do but I try to use as little as I can. I don't use MSG anymore but I still use bouillon cubes. I just try to enhance flavor by using a lot of spices and more natural ingredients. By doing this i get to experiment too with different flavors that makes every meal exciting.

I have a serious hesitation problem when it comes to dining outside. I can never decide where to eat, and if someone ask me, the first thing that shoots out is "MacDonalds" or "Kentucky" or "Burger King" even though i don't really like it, because i just hesitate to name a place!

I do add taste enhancers like meaty seasoning, ground pepper and garlic, anise seeds and other flavorings. SOmetimes if you don't use, foods taste bland. You want to enjoy your cooking and you want yourself and others to appreciate your cooking so you want your food to taste really good and delicious. However, I don't put too much of it.

Anise seeds are good enhancers for native delicacies like "rice cake" "palitaw" . IF you go to the wet market any vendor would know what anise seeds are. THey look like rice grain with cover. Very strong aroma. THere is another anise seed which you call star anise which you can use for beef, pork or chicken stew. If you want the taste of "pares" or a little sweet recipe of adobo or beef, you put in 1 - 2 star anise and a little sugar. it taste like "beef pares".

Herbs, salt and pepper is what I use. Sometimes I use orange, lemon or lime zest and juice. I put lots of spice and flavor in my food. Some to much for children, but we on't often feed children anymore.

i am guilty of this because sometimes i really cannot get the taste i want if i wont use flavourings. i do avoid it as much as possible but if i do not have the luxury of time, flavourings and enhancers really saves me lots of time when cooking.

yes, pehpot. you're right. msg is bad for our health thats why i dont use ajinomoto anymore. BUT is still use pork, chicken cubes, also the sinigang mix. that the only flavorings i use. because, i dont have enough time to boil some tamarind to make my sinigang very maasim. hahaha. but other seasoning i try to avoid it or i use it seldom like magic sarap and ginisa mix. take care.

I also use taste enhancers here in the Philippines. I use meaty seasoning because it really add zest to my cooking. Even how many meat or vegetables you put in sometimes, if you don't put enhancers, they taste bland or think something is missing. For me, taste enhancesr are so important to make your food really taste delicious.

I used to have a sachet of MSG in kitchen but since I realized what it can do to one's health I stopped using it. Instead I put a little bit of sugar to get the same taste as MSG. But today, I don't think we can run from taking flavor enhancer such as MSG. It was in almost every food that we take. Even if they don't put Monosodium Glutamate on the label, the manage to come up with other name for it. Unless we are back to nature then we can avoid them.
