How easy or how difficult it is for a new person to settle in your city?

Hi friends,
I live in a metropolitan city and I admit that settling here can be a nightmare for some people. Recently one of my cousin came to our place and told us that he is having a real tough time here.
He belongs to a village from West Bengal and city life is defiantly not suiting him. He is not use to the traffic, pollution and the other hazards of urban life.
People come from villages in the cities for better earning opportunities and often gets into more than trouble. They just cannot acclimatize themselves into city egotistic life.
I wonder how is your city for new comers?
Cheers,
Tutul

I live in a small town and think it would be easy for people to adjust and settle down here. The only downfall is that many of the jobs are minimum wage jobs or factory jobs and there aren't a ton of job openings. The houseing isn't expensive here, but the taxes will kill you! As for just getting along, I live in a very nice community and feel it would be easy for someone to move here.

Hi sunshine,
People usualy move from one place to another for better earning oppurtuniites and for a better living standard. I have a friend in Denmark and he says that 50 % of his earning goes to taxes . That means for example if i earn 10 $ from mylot by putting so much effort, so much time and then i have to pay 5 $ in taxes? Goodness me! Thats cruel.
Nice to know that u live in a nice community. Peaceful life is lot better than rich but hectic life.
Cheers,

I am unsure, but I do know that we have many people from up state that move from where they are at to move here. I don't know how they deal with this.. Where they are at, is much traffic, loud noises, constantly.. So, I guess it is easier for them to adapt here, from what I have seen.

Hi cream,
Yes settling in a big city can be real tough. Actuall y they are not use to that mind your own business tyoe attitude. People in small town geet each other , they give a smile even to the strangers and in the big cities they give a weird look, lol.
Cheers,

Well it all depends, but the Island where I live is somewhat closed minded and a bit racist. They don't accept people so well if they are noticeably different, being the but of jokes and mockery, and being a small island everyone knows everything about everyone so it can be hard to escape the gossip and bad talk. It used to be much worse then it is now though, people are learning little by little to be a bit more accepting thankfully. Also wages and living ends up hard as you'd have to be a couple or friends living together at times to share expenses. The minimum wage is around 400€ and apartments tend to go for a 1 bedroom from 350€ upwards, so if you then add other expenses your money can disappear very fast. I find that its a good vacation location, but for living I find there are other places with much more to offer.
