any good java programmers.. please read!!!!!!

Hey guys, I just love programming in java (even though I'm a noob), but I still love programming in java. I'm currently using a program called BlueJ, and I don't use netbeans so much (it runs slow on my computer for some reason when it loads). So, I'm making a simple program that is GUI based, and I'm really having trouble trying to give the components in my JPanel a specific location. I've been trying to use somecomponent.setLocation(x,y) thing, and it does compile to code without errors, but it does not place the specific component on the specific location that I assigned. So, if you are good java programmers, please help me out!!! And happy mylotting :)
