I eat balut.. But I don't eat the chick inside of balut.. Balut is a fertilized duck(or chicken)egg with a nearly-developed embryo inside that is boiled and eaten in the shell.. They are common, everyday food in some countries in southeast Asia, such as in the Philippines,Cambodia, and in Vietnam. Popular believed aphrodisiac and considered a high-protein,hearty snack,Balut are mostly sold by street vendor at night in the regions where they are available..
Balut are often eat with a pinch salt, though some balut-eaters prefer chili and vinegar to complement their egg. Do you eat all inside the balut or Do you separate the chicks from balut??

I have heard of Balut and I know what it is but I am from the United States and this is not something that we serve here. I don't think I could bring myself to eat it. I don't think I could cope with seeing the baby bird or eating it like that - whole and such.
However, I am curious as to one thing. What does it taste like? Does it taste like a hard boiled egg or does it taste like eating a piece of chicken? Or is it a completely different taste unique to this dish?
Thanks for your information and happy myLotting!!!

i certainly love balut! so yummy! i guess the only thing i don't eat is the hard one which is white because my teeth can't chew it.. haha.. my sister-in-laws' parents has a store where they sell raw balut eggs. i saw the price increase of balut, it was sold before at least 4 or 5 pesos but now it's nearly 12pesos here in my location. well that is of course for peedlers, imagine their effort of wlaking or riding a bike to sell those yummy balut eggs. i prefer eating it with chili & vinegar! also, i can't eat it without spoon. my sister-in-law would usually cook at least 15 pieces for the whole family since it's cheaper than buying it form the vendors. the maximum balut eggas that i can eat if 5! :)

I tried the almost egg balut and it tasted good. That was after my sister had been convincing me to do so. The one with the chick with it's feathers inside is a bit yucky!!! :-(

I like to eat balut. I'm recently looking for that vendor in our street but I can't locate him. I like the ones that are still undeveloped (Balut sa puti), I forgot how many days that egg is. It still has no feathers and beak and feet. But I do eat both.
I never tried it with chili and vinegar. Maybe I should because I love spicy foods.
I also like the water in egg. hmmm.

No, I don't...sorry. I find it revolting everytime I see somebody eating one. It's just that we are not taught to eat it at an early age. There's nothing wrong with it, I guess. It's just us...me and my siblings. My parents then were not balut eaters, so it's handed down to us.

yes i do love eating balut, but now that i am turning 35 i dont eat balut that much anymore. when i was in my teen years i can eat balut almost every night. balut can make your blood pressure up so i limit eating it. i eat balut maybe once a month or 5 times a year. i just eat balut with salt not with vinegar. i eat everything inside but not the hard part.

I do love balut cause its very healthy for your knees. It makes you strong but however you must eat only one balut a week. Everything that is too much is bad for your health. This egg is rich in protein.

I eat balot whole. Before I don't eat the chicks inside but now I can eat all of it. Mostly girls can't eat the chicks and just left it behind. That's true, balot is high in protein. I often eat balot if I'm lack of sleep because of a lot of projects to do. They said it can add some strength somehow. I don't know if that's but I eat balot because I just like it, not for anything else.
Happy mylotting..
