Why is the US so interested in Israel?

I mean why are we so eager to help "the State of Israel?" Why is this so important? Who are we protecting? I just wondered because it seems to me this is where a lot of our anti Muslim sentiment is coming from. Maybe I am off base here but I listened to John McCain talking about the "state of Israel" and wondered why America is so concerned. Seems like we should be more worried about America and not Israel. Someone shed some light on this one please.

Guilt.
Religious fear.
Biblical misinterpretation.
Israel is also the only country in the Middle East that is our "friend". Isreal didn't exist until after WWII, Palestine fought on the wrong side and so lost their country. The allies stole it and gave it to the Jewish people as Blood Money for appeasment for the Holocaust. Now and forever after we are bound to protect their right to settle and hold that which isn't theirs.

THANK YOU!!! This is a WAY more plausible response. Makes sense in fact it is the type of response I had hope to get out of this discussion. You know why I post the things I do by now, not out of my lack of knowledge but my desire to bring out the truth. I want to start meaningful topics up here too where all can benefit from what is being said and I can earn money as well. I love starting trouble up here (as my ranking shows. I dropped down from a ten!!) This land rightfully belongs to the Palestinians. If it was taken from them because of the Holocaust, which had everything to do with Adolf Hitler and the axis powers then it was unjustifiably stolen from the people of Palestine, who had no involvement with Hitler. And we have empowered the thieves so to speak. This land is regarded as holy by the Jews and Muslim alike. It is said that Abraham's tomb is located in this land (who is regarded as the first Muslim) and we wonder why there is so much unrest in the Middle East. I mean if someone stole from you would you not be angered? Would you not want your property back? And our attitude is "screw em" it's ours now and we are right in doing so?

As usual thank you for your wealth of knowledge. I really didn't know the history behind this so you have made me more informed on the matter.

Well actually the Palestinians fought on the "wrong" side of WWII, that is why they lost their country. It was fair game when the world was being re-distributed. I am not saying that it was a fair re-distribution, only that this is the reasoning.
Historically speaking the land itself is considered Holy by all three religions - Jewish, Islam, and Christian. This is why it is such a hot commodity. Had it remained in Islamic hands it would have also remained closed to other religious pilgrimage, one other reason for the re-distribution. So long as it is in the hands of our "friends" it is open and preserved. The problem is of course that when the European and Middle Eastern Jews were re-settled the Palestinians were also displaced, losing their homes, businesses, governments. They also lost the right to vote and hold public office.
On another note, Abraham or Abram, is the father of all three main religions. In the Jewish tradition he is sometimes called Avraham Avinu or "Abraham, our Father". Muslims consider him a prophet and he is a ancestor of Muhammad through his son Ishmael, son of his concubine Hagar. He also had a son by Sarah his first wife who would later father "nations" as promised to Abraham, including both Jewish and eventually Christian.
As such Abraham is the "father" of all three major religions.

Hello shamsta.
US is providing aids for Israel ( military, financial and diplomatic supports). Israel is one of the oil-producing countries in the world. I think that is why US is interested. This is just my view. But there's an article about it at fpif.org that you can read and it might help.
Have a nice day!

At least that makes sense. We are in in for oil. Iraq, Iran and Saudi Arabia are also some of the largest producers of oil and we invade their land insted of providing them with aide. We invade Iraq for no reason! No weapons of mass destruction and now we still hold claim over them instead of giving the people their territory back. WHy do we not invade Israel when they slaughter Muslims abroad? They have oil why not seize it like we have with Iraq and Afghanistan?

The real question should be,"Why are the Muslim Countries so bent on destroying Israel?" I may be wrong but isn't Israel the only nation in the middle east that allows Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Religion, And Freedom of the Press for Muslims Christians and Jews?

It would seem this holds true except for anything involving Muslims there. These people invaded Israel in the first place and stole the land from the Palestinians. It seems like we are helping the wrong team. Why is it our job to convert other countries governments? I am all for democracy of course, but when did we get the authority to involve ourselves in other nations politics? And why don't we help the Rwandans? The Ethiopian? The South African? Are you getting my point here. It's not that we are helping Israel but there is ssssssssooooooooooooo much emphasis placed on this nation and I would like to know why.

Did Israel really take land from the Palestinians?. I thought the West Bank was held by Jordan and Gaza was under Egypt. And before that I think Turks ruled that place. When was the last time a Palestinian Government or King rule that small piece of Land.

The state of Israel has been responsible for countless crimes against humanity and aggressively violent against muslim nations. They use our military and money to fulfill their political and religious agendas. Ariel Sharon is a tyrant and a war mongor. His views are dangerously fundamentalist at best. Our forefathers warned us to steer clear of entangling alliances and keep our noses out of other nations political affairs. Why doesn't anyone listen to the founders anymore?

Precisely! Why are we in alliance with them? It would seem they are the "terrorists" constantly being talked about. I suppose it depends on what side your standing on. I know I am not the only one feeling this way about this.

This is so true. And we ALL have become slaves to the system. Consuming our lives away while living in fear of our government. What have we become? When we sought to escape this type of atrocity in history there was a revolution............

Israel is our only ally in the Middle East. No matter how much the Arab countries try to convey a desire for peace, they are lying. They cannot be trusted. For our own safety sake we need a presence in the Middle East and our relationship with Israel provides that.

Or does it when the Israelis are validated to wage war against Islam? How can there truly be peace where this exist?

There can be peace in this region when the Arab countries recognize Israel as a sovereign nation and stop trying to destroy it. Israel has the right and obligation to defend itself. I'm thankful the United States recognizes Israel's right to exist and I hope the prayers of the people will always include, "We pray for peace in Jerusalem," and indeed in all of Israel and the Middle East.
