I enjoyed watching the presidential debates last night. One of my favorite topics was Iraq. I side with Sen. Obama - the Iraq war should never have happened. Sen. McCain brought up the bracelet he wore in honor of a soldier who died in Iraq. The soldier's mother asked McCain to make sure that her son did not die in vain. Obama brought up his bracelet he wore in honor of another soldier whose mother asked Obama to make sure that not another mother has to go through what she did. I really liked this rebuttal. I have the utmost respect for the military - I'm an Army brat & know what the families go through. Too many young men & women are dying in Iraq & I believe we need to bring them home soon. I think Obama had the upper hand in this argument. What did you think of this exchange?

Well for one thing much of the reason for the start of the war in Irag was due to faulty intelligence that was as much the fault of previous administrations, especially Clinton's, as it was Bush's. Remember almost all of the 9/11 terrorist entered the US when Clinton was president and 8 months was much too little time for Bush to have made significant changes in the intellegence branches. As for the bracelets talk, at least McCain knew the persons name accurately and with ease while Obama stumbled all over trying to remember the name and say it. It was obviouse to me that McCain had true feelings about the bracelet he wore while for Obama it was just a political ploy.

So true. For McCain this was a planned moment, for Obama it was a retort. The man has a great memory for names. And yes he was wearing the bracelet - I have seen it on him many times before. I really couldn't tell if McCain had his on or not.
Stealthy, I have to respecfully disagree with you about Clinton being involved. Bush wanted this war - he just got the excuse he wanted to start it, even though with faulty evidence. As for Obama stumbling over the name of the soldier, he had to come up with that in a pinch. McCain's comment was planned & he had it written down. Haven't you ever stumbled over someone's name before?

McCain is a veteran for one so it should be more personal to him. And it shouldn't be that hard to remember a name of the thousands that probally approached his with the same plea. Also McCain understands the power of the Veterans vote. Did you realized that in that group alone there are over 25 million veterans?

Come on ... you aren't really trying to say that Bush didm't manipulate the evidence to get his war are you? If we need to we can go to the Internet and find you plenty of examples to back this up. As to the bracelet issue, I have forgotten. Was one of the candidates actually wearing the bracelet? Now I remember, Obama had his bracelet on.

Well to be honest I thought it was tacky that McCain brought it up. He will continue to try whatever it takes to win. I like how Obama responded that he had one as well. I'm sorry but I really didn't like that part.

I'm sure McCain was pretty upset about the response from Obama. It was tacky of McCain to bring it up but I really liked the fact that Obama had a comeback & a great one in my opinion.

I felt bad that Obama stumbled on the name althought I understand. I am sure he doesn't sit there every minute running the mans name over and over in his mind. He has to also be given slack because he didn't bring the issue up, McCain did. McCain would have been a fool to bring it up without having the persons name on the tip of the tounge so it is no suprise that he knew the name. Obama fumbled the name but guess what he remember it and .... HE WAS wearing the bracelet. I don't think McCain was.

Can you provide evidence of this? It sounds to me like you don't "THINK" McCain wasn't wearing his, yet you have no proof. Sounds like a bit weak for you to make an accusation with nothing to back it up. My search for this information has come up empty. I have yet to see a single source claim he wasn't wearing that bracelet.
