I really love traveling by train and it is my favorite way to travel. In the day time I can look out of the window and in the night time I can sleep in a comfortable compartment. Europe has an excellent train system, the USA, Canada and Russia have very good train lines. I have traveled by train in California, in Australia on long distance trains and in New Zealand on scenic train lines.
Has your home country got a train system?
If so what is it like?
Have you been on some train journeys?
Which form of transport do you like most? Why?

I have travelled by train from Newcastle to Edinburgh and I really enjoyed it when we wnet past all the houses, the animals grazing and other buildings. I prefer travelling by air. Last summer we travelled by Bus in Ireland. It was not bad but it takes a bit longer than trains.

I think the intercity trains can be fairly fast. Last year I traveled by train from Bristol to Newcastle then I took a local bus that was really slow. Yes, bus often takes much longer than the train. The Irish countryside must have been so beautiful. I travel by air sometimes because it is a fast way to cover huge distances.

I love travelling by train, providing you have the time as it's not the quickest way of travel, I went from Waterloo to Amsterdam by train, via Eurostar and it was a brilliant experience but I prefer the plane so much quicker especially if you are only going for a weekend. I went on a night train from London To Penzance when we travelled to see the eclipse in 2000. I love the double decker trains in Amsterdam and that was a wonderful experience on it's own! There's something adventurous going by train especially in other countries. Have you been on the Bullet train in Japan my friend?

Well,It is a long long time that I have never travelled by train. In my country, people regard it as an "ancident" transport.Y'konw it's so slow that you have to stay here for nearly more than one days.
But when I hear the advantages that you said,it arouse my interest.I really want to try.

Yea travelling by train always is good rather than travelling through bus , i will feel nauseated when im travelling in bus but train i feel very energetic , we can cook our food in train we can sleep using the berth , more facilities are opted in train than bus , it goes fast but we can dance , play ,run inside a train , it is like we are moving without getting disturbed i had travelled some 8 to 10 hours in train that was only maximum travel i had been through but it was an awesome trip , still i can cherish those wonderful moments

Hello dear maximax. To travel in a train in China is the cheapest of all the other transportations. But I have to say that it is very tiring if you travel without a sleeping train, but a seat one. It is not that easy to always to get a berth ticket, so most times I sit all the way to the destination if a berth ticket is not available.

We took the children on a train ride last year as they had never been on a train before ands since they don't like travelling as they get bored we just went to the next big town, brought a book for each of them , had lunch out and caught the train back! They also get bored with shopping, but they did enjoy going on the train.
Other than that I can't remember the last time I went on a train.

Train is also my first choice when I want to travel somewhere for its convenience and low cost. As a member of low-income group, aeroplane is some luxury for me. As a result, perhaps I will be uncomforatble when I sit on the chair inside plane and I am sure that it is definitly not the feeling of being travelling. Secondly, most of the places in our country can be reached by train. The aeroplane, however, cannot do that for the cost of building an airport is much more high than the cost of building a railway station. On the other hand, it only cost you very short time to reach your destination by aeroplane and you can spend more time on your travel. From I am standing, I enjoy the screen of the journey when I travel by train although it seems some boiled. Because all the things along the journey such as hills, villages, farmland, are so attactive to me and I always stare at outside of window.

I too like to travel by train. I am from India. Actually struggling with job tensions and daily hectic schedules, I love to travel by train for vacation (long tours). It gets me some rest. generally I travel every 6 months or so. and the travel time ~24 TO 30 HRS. In the mean time, I complete atleast one good book. a few magazines. Mainly getting know about fellow passengers. This looks strange and surprisingly, we are sharing our views with totally strangers! Great isn't it?

I'm from the United States, so I don't need to say that my country uses trains. Unfortunately I've never travelled by train though. I usually don't go any where far enough that taking a train would be warranted. Which is such a shame because I would really love to take a train ride somewhere because it does seem like it would be really fun. Ah, maybe some day. The only way I ever get to travel is by car.

I used to never travel by train.
That is.. until I went to visit Europe. (I'm in USA).
I found the train rather enjoyable and a nice way to take in the travel.
While in Europe, I had made a couple attempts to rent a car but it never really worked out for me.
I rented a car in Paris and it was INSANE! The traffic was crazy like any other huge city. I got around fine on their efficient metro system, in the end.
I enjoyed it so much that I explored taking the train to work, here in the states.
For a few reasons actually..
-I love being able to doze off a little in the morning on the way to work rather than be occupied by rush hour. The same for the end of the day.
-It's a heck of a lot cheaper than feeding the pump with gas prices these days.
-I travel to our own little silicon valley here which is about 20 miles away from my house. The train stops about 3 blocks from my house and drops me off across the street from work.
-My workplace encourages using the public transit system. We receive discounts on tickets.
I find the train system here very efficient.
Some people like it.. some hate it.
I've come to like it for my own personal reasons.

I have only travelled by train in Australia, Switzerland, and here in Norway. The trains in Australia were great. real comfortable, and fun things to look at. In Switzerland it was a bit more boring I think. Here in Norway I have not travelled very far, but I know there are some really nice rides across the mountains.
I think trains are ok. better than busses because you can move about a bit. I prefere to travel by car because I get to choose when to stop and for how long. Its nice and quiet as well. On longer trips I prefere planes. I cannot sleep when traveling so I prefere to stop and sleep in hotels. Unless on a boat. That's a pretty good way to travel. We go quite often to Denmark by boat. That's a nice trip. We just go overnight by boat and have the day in Copenhagen before we travel home overnight.

I love them, too. But they are now as expensive as flying. I'm moving to Canada in November and checked with Amtrak. It was as expensive as flying. Greyhound was cheapest (about half), but takes 4 days from here.
