Does your cat ever take a swipe at you as you walk by?

Just now, when I was walking around the corner to go into the kitchen, I ran up on the cat. He was laying on the floor at the entrance to the kitchen. And, as I walked past him, I felt really creeped out, as if he was about to reach out and swipe me with his paw. Maybe I was walking too close to him. He doesn't really like that. I think his hearing is getting bad. When the other cats run up on him, unannounced, they get a swipe. So, I'm thinking he's going to do something like that to me. Anyway, does your cat ever swipe you with his paw as you walk by?

I had this one cat who would hang out in a nice little spot where I couldn't see her, either around a corner or under something. When I walked past she'd jump out and attack my legs, feet, ankles, whatever. Sometimes she'd stand on her hind legs and grab my calves with her front paws. She'd litterally attack me!! Not just swipe, but attack! I'd end up running away and she'd chase me through the house! That crazy dang cat!! But oddly enough she never once hurt me. She never had her claws out when she attacked, and although she would put her mouth on me sometimes as if to bite... she never actually did. She was playing with me really. I guess she thought I was just another cat... only much bigger, lol. All in all she was a good cat, and I miss her sometimes. My husband still laughs at the site of my cat chasing me through the house.

Oh, that's cute! Sometimes, my cats get playful like that too. They don't play as much with me anymore, since we got a fourth cat. Now, they pretty much stick to their own cat kind!

We had 3-4 cats when she was doing this. She started off as an only cat, then we slowly kept adding more. But she would do this EVERY time I walked past, so it would happen quite a few times each day.

My cat does that all the time. Has since he was a baby kitten. He thinks he is a tough cat Judging from all his bruises and cuts, I think he's pretty wimpy. Maybe swiping at my leg is the only time he can feel like he won

My cat has been known to do this to me on occasion. I'm surprised he hasn't figured out by now that he should not lay in my path, that I can't see where I am going, and that if he gets in the wrong place I'll trip over him, or something. some cats never learn.

Yeah, cats are so weird! They never learn. Never! And you'd think they would.

Hello beauty queen. My American colleague who worked with me a few years ago had a wonderful huge brown English cat. I used to play with him though he was timid and hid himself somewhere when I paid a visit to their apartment. Gradually he was so scary about me and started to play with me as well. When I played with him, he always swiped at me and I love it when he did so because he was friendly to me. Even now thinking of him, I cannot help smiling for the wonderfu memories and fun I got from him. I miss Mr. Sweets, the cat's name. Have a good day, friend.

Oh, that sounds like our third cat, Little Buddy. Just now, my daughter was coming out of the other room and didn't see Little Buddy (the 1 year old female cat) and she totally stepped on her. Accidental, of course. That cat is always getting under foot.

Oh yeah, my Jake will do that. I find myself walking and looking down to keep my eye on him. Never know when he will lash out. My other cat Scoots, does not like to be touched, and she will hiss, bite and swat if you touch her. Sometimes she will let you get in maybe ten strokes before she lashes out. Jake is just crazy, he is a sweet cat, but sometimes he acts like he is having PMS

Big Man, my big male cat, is pretty much the same way. Most times, he's pretty cool. But on occasion, he goes nuts and kind of takes a wack at anyone or anything walking by. Pity my poor ankles!

one of mine does if he wants my attention,or wants to play.usually has his claws sheathed,so i know it's play. but the other cats, that's not play.he does the socko on them like yours. the calico kind of asks for it though, she's always messing with him.

My cats do that to get my attention. Sometimes they will stalk me and jump out at me just to surprise me. They aren't doing it to be mean, it is because they consider me as one of them. If your cat takes a swipe at you, don't get creeped out. Reach down and pet him, he is simply wanting you to acknowledge that he is there. Cats have a different way of communicating and showing affection. Cats have a habit of giving a little "nip" that isn't hard but it kind of pinches. It's a "Love Bite", and isn't meant to hurt you. Just as they will grab you around your leg and hold on, it's just that they are feeling playful and want you to play with them. I have had cats all my life and they have done all kinds of different things to me. If I don't like what they do, I work at discouraging the behavior. I don't allow the cats to bite me hard, and if they do they get reprimanded. Acknowledge your cat's desire for his comfort zone and try to respect it at all times. If his hearing is going bad this will be more important to him than ever, as cats depend a lot on their hearing and to loose it will make them feel more insecure. His loosing his hearing leaves him in a position that would be similar to our loosing our sight. Oh, BTW, even if he takes a swipe at you with his paw, it won't hurt that much so don't worry if he does.

No, but every once in awhile he will sneak up behind you and pounce on you. He did it to me a few weeks ago and punctured my arm in 3 places.

LOL! I have 3 cats and only one of them has a tendency to get a little grabby. She only does it when she is feeling a little playful. And, it really is pretty rare for her to do it. I think it all depends on the temperment of your cat as to how you should react to it. Mine would be just feeling frisky and playful if they swiped at my feet as I walk by. But, if yours has a tendency to do it when he is feeling fiesty or angry, that is another story all together. LOL! Otherwise, I wouldn't be creeped out by it. Maybe reach down and pet him or engage him in some play time. But, you know your cat and whether that swipe is friendly and playful or fiesty and prone to becoming a bit of a fight.

My kitten Alexia, is so cute and funny. She just started doing this new thing in my room. When she is on top of one of my dressers and I pass by her to leave out of my bedroom, its like she is patting me on the back as I leave out the room. Its like she's telling me "Good job." . Also she likes to groom my hair. I try to fix it after she grooms it and then she'll groom it all over again. She also likes to cuddle and be petted sometimes and then she nibble at your hand if you don't. She also understands no, so yesterday I was crocheting and she tried to grab at the yarn I was using. I was like no stop and she let out the shaky meow, like she's telling me no. I don't know, she does crazy things.

hehe , yeah cats will do this definitely. I had a big male Persian cat name Smudge , for about 13 years. I miss my fur ball . He would hide behind a chair and wait and wait , then ambush me . He would chase me around the house . Mind you I was only like 7 or eight at this time . He would get so rambuxious he would chase me up onto the chair or sofa. I would be giggling so hard and I am sure he thought it was a lot of fun also. I had another kitty when I was even younger, his name was Bear. He was strictly an outside cat. He was a huge mainecoon. I lived in Ohio at the time and it was winter . I ran outside to catch the school bus and the driveway was frozen solid. The driveway kind of made a bit of slope down to the road . I did not see Bear hiding behind the car tire in the driveway . He jetted out at my legs . He tobbled me over! . He and I go sliding down the driveway. I ended up drenched and he was sitting next to me smiling his goofy cat smile .

YES! I don't have a cat, but oh my god my grandma's cat swipes at me almost everytime I walk past! And when I go up her stairs, the cat tried to run up the stairs and literally grab my foot with his paws! It's so weird! Hahaha, but he stopped a little I guess. :P

Sigil does that all the time. He thinks it is hilarious. I really think he goes and sits somewhere high traffic on purpose to just swat people.

Playfully-- all the time. We have 2 kittens! They are so cute... everything and everyone is game! :) they think the house and everything in it is their play toys and they act like it. You could be walking by and they jump on you- You can be sleeping and just move a toe- forget it- it's a toy and they attack! kittens are so playful--- I love them!

Funny Cat - I have several of them!
Oh yes two of mine does!! One is my siamese seal point, Gracie. She'll be in the hallway and I'll walk past her and it doesn't matter if I acknowledge her or not but a lot of times she'll jump straight up and grab my hand or arm and slide back to the floor! She's hilarious!! She's very vocal and such a comic!! Now my other cat will reach out and grab me if he wants attention. His name is Rascal and his nick name is Baaaaad boooy!! lol He has an innocent curiosity about him, such as, he'll do something that he's not suppose to do like grab at something and pulls it off the table, he'll look at me like,"Now why did it do that?" Or "What do I do now?" I have to laugh because he's a comic too. As you know, I have 9 cats, most of them are comics either with each other or by themselves but comics nonetheless.

He sounds like a real hoot! I love funny cats. My two older cats are getting older, so most of their antics days are over. My daughter adopted a little orange kitten from one of our outdoor female cats, last month, so that makes four cats total. Hubby almost had a conniption! But, he let him stay inside cause I thought the kitten was funny cause of his little Buddha belly. That cat makes me laugh! We're making it work. Though the kitten eats so much that we go through a medium sized bag of cat food weekly!

Not a swipe at but I knew a cat that would hide on top of cabinets and things and it would make a creepy noise like predator and then jump on you if you got close enough to the cabinet.
