Learning starts from the moment one is born and shouldn't finish until the day you die. Learning should always be a pleasurable thing but unfortunately many people's idea of 'teaching' makes it uncomfortable and something for the child to want to avoid. Always treat life as a game, especially with little children. That is the best way for them to learn.

At each of the child's growing stage, teachings pertaining to that stage or age is to be done. Five months child can be taught to say bai and tata, hai, pushing the ball etc. Slowly some big words, and body language can be taught. Foremost thing, we have to teach them to express their toilet requirements. My neighbour's child is 2 years 10 months and still passes bathroom, at the place, wherever he is. When the child is growing up, becomes, boy and youth, sky is the limit to teach the child. Any subject, game, language, cooking, extra-curriculars, general knowledge etc. etc. can be tought and we can make him knowledgeable in many fields, which will help him in his day- to-day life and get many friends with whom he can talk on any subject freely without stammering.

I always find teaching your baby should begin earlier. When my son was 3 to 4 month olds, I always talk to him and show him objects that can excite him.It was really fun to watch his reactions. When he was older, I uses flash cards and show him pictures and words he likes. Now at the age at two he can say 0ne to ten in English and my mother tongue. And I noticed sometimes, he can solve problems by himself. There was one time he wants to take his water. He gets his glass and stool and get the water by himself. I praised him and he was very proud. He also puts his toys and dirty clothes inside its proper places by himself and nobody teaches him. He did that by observing.

I think the right stage for teaching the babies is when they started responding to your talks and started blabbering and first word 'ma'comes I guess!!
