tell you something about Chinese taboos, hope you like it!
1 In china, clock can't be a birthday present, because the word "clock" sounds similar to the word "death". Presenting a clock to someone sounds similar to present "death" to someone.
2 You can't give somebody an umbrella, becasue the word umbrella sounds similar to the word "separation"
3 It is a taboo to say 'si(death)' when people died. Chinese pople often say "lao le" "zou le" "bu zai le" "guo shi" instead. It's ominous to say anything related to death and funeral during festivals.
