We just got back from "brunch". It is a good thing my hubby asked before we ordered. $12.99 for adults $7.00 for kids. There wasn't anything to this "Brunch" Srambled eggs. Bacon, hash browns, that's it. This is a little house converted to a cafe. We had muffins and coffee, tea for me milk for my daughter. Came to a little over $6. Have you ever been surprised by the cost of something?

That is definately too much money! I could see it if it was a big buffet with lots of items to choose from but not just ordinary breakfast items. Has this cafe been in business long? Those prices will scare alot of people away whereas if they charged only half that price they would probably sell alot more.
I've learned that if you don't see a price posted somewhere it's usually because it's expensive so I either ask or walk away.

I guess that was costly!
Did happen to me a couple of times, as far as I can remember. We were returning from the countryside and stopped by on the way to have dinner and the prices there were seriously high! I cannot happen to remember it exactly since that was a long time back, but they were really costly!
I do find the cost of many things to be quite high. Take the case of cool drinks for example. I personally think that the manufacturing cost for it would be like one-tenth of its bottled cost! I also find the cost of water to be high! I mean, water should always be free right?!

Hey from your discussion i understood the place where you had your food was not that big place then why so much costly , dint you asked them , ususally in my place if it s a posh restaurant or cafe definietly the prices would be high but then for milk and tea they wont charge us for $6 , yea once we went to a clothing shop and we found all the clothes with a large number in it i mean the price was too high , we dont know what was wrong that shop was also isn't that posh or something but then for the rate we got those clothes dint fade quickly , we used it for more than 6 months

Yes when I was in Ireland a simple meal of fish and chips, tortellini and hamburger added up to sixty euros including six liri table charge which was not included in the menu. We used to eat the same type of food for around 45 euros. I was really angry that they made hidden charges.

I suppose it depends where you have it. I've seen places here where brunch can run over $20.00 per person. It does include Mimosa's though, but still, I don't think many people eat all that much. I know I dont! I usually skip it, as when we do find somewhere reasonable, the place is usually too packed to enjoy. We've only done it for a "special ocassions" and don't do it routinely.

That's unfortunate. I know of a few breakfast brunches which are much cheaper than that and, traditionally, have a lot to offer. I think it would make more sense if you were going to charge $12 to have at least a few unique things not always found at a traditional brunch like.. oh, Quiche or something.

That is a steep price to pay for such a little bit of food. I guess the reason they were so expensive is that they were a cafe converted from a house. For $12.99 you could have went to McDonalds and bought a complete meal for all of you. Even Denny's would have been cheaper. They must not get alot of business if they cahrge such high prices.

Yes one year I took my children and a couple of their friends to a Mcdonalds that was a couple of hours away for us to celebrate there birthday . They all sat down and ate and the price was a little high but I figured at least they all got something to eat but after this I took them for ice cream and near fell over when the cost of the ice cream cost more then all of them to eat a meal . It was at Dairy Queen a place we never go and I found out then why we never went before , the prices were outrageous . I couldn't tell all the children they could not have this as I had already agreed and it was to celebrate my childrens birthday but it would have been a lot cheeper if I had went and bought the stuff to make sundae's and banana splits myself and let them make what they wanted .

Yes, a few months ago... i wanted to have my hair trimmed... i went to a salon in a mall... and was quite shocked when the receptionist told me how much it would cost to have my hair trimmed... not that i did not have money at that time... but the way she said it... it was as if i cannot afford it... so i just thanked her... and left... then went to another salon... good thing i did...

That is way too much for the amount of food you were going to be served. Especially the kids price. I mean come on. $7 for a 5 year old to eat? What is she going to eat maybe $1 worth of food? I think the prices at most food establishments is getting out of control anymore.

The most shocking for me was last summer when we went to Philadelphia for my son's university registration. My sister used her Marriot points to book us a room, which was great, but... they didn't tell me until I checked out the next morning that it cost $50 to park the car overnight! Talk about shock, I steamed over that for the entire 9 hour drive home. If I had known it would cost to park a car at a hotel I would have left it at the campus and taken the subway uptown to the hotel.

That is expensive for brunch. I think you did the right thing. Usually if you don't see the prices posted that is a warning. You beter ask or get hit with a high priced meal when you're done.

Yeah, it happen sometimes when I go to something like coffee shop - when I order a cofee worth 10$ which isn't that good and come in very small cup, without being anything more that simple cappucino... I sometimes just have to get coffee and it's only way I could do it without being late to school - to grab it on my way.
I'm also shocked, but I think only in Poland, about prices of fabircs. I like sewin,g I treat it like a hobby, but those prices.. less than one yard quare for 40$? Really bad kind of material, it's sometimes cheaper to buy a shirt from it in some really fancy shop o.O

Wow that is very expensive. And $7.00 for kids? Some kids don't eat a lot. I would have chosen something else like you did for the cheaper price. I have been surprised by the price of stuff before when we have gone out to eat.

Yes many many times, I think some places have a damn cheek for what they try to charge people! It is often not even nice food and I would not pay over the odds for a brunch, it is a good job you did not just order up it would have cost you a fortune!

Whats annoying is that you have to ASK for prices at most restaurants and I think this practice is new as I do not think my mom or dad ever had to do the same. It encourages impulsive buying and for those trying to stick to a budget can be irritating, its called credit card syndrome. You have to visit a restaurant at least twice to get to know the prices of the items you would like to buy as I usually have two entrees I flip flop back n forth to when ordering.
