Yes, I have been to Bangkok a number of times. There are many big shopping centres and department stores, Central World Plaza, Emporium, Mah Boon Krong, Big-C, Gaysorn Plaza, Siam Centre. There are night markets along the main roads too, very popular for local residents as well as for tourists. You can buy clothes there at very cheap prices. You can do bargaining too.
Thailand is well known as the "Land of Smiles". Have a nice time !

The places you've told are famous Department Store which sales brand name - hi quality clothes. But there is a famous market for Thai and foreign people "Jatuchak Park".
You can go there by subway train and you will find everything you want.
Some thai people says "We sale everything that can be sold.".
You must do bargain in this market because the merchants will always set the price higher when they know you are not foreigner.

I haven't yet been to Thailand. I have heard that the market place in Bangkok is a great place to buy hand crafted items. When I lived near Canterbury there was a Thai lady that had a shop. In the window she had clothing and a model wooden house. I think that in Bangkok you might be able to get tailer made clothing of exactly your size fairly cheaply. Also you might want to go to the islands or to the villages in the north for some trekking.
