F1 history was made tonight when Singapore hosted the first Formula One night race. The race concluded just a little over two hours ago. Last June, F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone gave Singapore the green light to host Formula One's first and historic night race at the Marina Street Circuit. As a Singaporean, I'm so proud that this city state has been able to put together in just over a year all the necessary infrastructure to host this race tonight with overwhelming success.
I wasn't there among the 100,000 people who watched the race at track side. But I was among the 300 million viewers from all over the world who watched it "live" on television. I'm not a very ardent F1 fan, but tonight's race really set my pulse racing and my eyes were glued to the TV from start to finish of this race. Besides the excitement of the bright lights illuminating the track like day and the deafening roar of the engines, there were lots of excitement with three crashes and Felipe Massa miraculously driving off with the fuel hose still attached to his car after a pit stop (which killed his chances of winning the race). Finally, Fernando Alonso secured a stunning victory after starting from 15th position on the grid. Here's a short report of the race http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en/index.shtml. What a night it was for motor racing! Are you an F1 fan? Do you like motor racing?
Were you like me part of this history making by watching it "live" from wherever you are in the world? I'm so thrilled by what I saw tonight that maybe next year, I may buy tickets to watch the race.
