Hot Buttered Rum - Hot Buttered Rum, is it good?

So I was looking up some Christmas recipes (yes already!) and one of the beverages I came across is Hot Buttered Rum. It looked interesting to say the least but it sounds like such a weird concoction to me. I admittedly do want to try it but I was wondering... Have any of you had the pleasure (or displeasure?) of experiencing this drink? Do you make it at home? If you do make it, which recipe do you use? (I found lots!) I just find the idea of pouring the hot water over the ice cream mixture so odd! Although I did find one that was completely different, yet still called Hot Buttered Rum! So, any ideas people?

I'm not a drinker, but I've been fascinated with the idea of hot buttered rum since I was a kid. One of these days I ought to try it. But I've never heard of it being made with ice cream, though the idea of pouring something hot over ice cream in itself isn't unusual. Chilled coffee recipes often involve this, the idea being that the hot coffee melts the ice cream, then you add ice and you have a cold coffee flavored with the ice cream. However, hot buttered rum is supposed to be - hot! I think. I thought it was just warmed up rum with a pat of butter on top and a stick of cinammon.

I have never heard of hot buttered rum with ice cream and hot water. I have had hot buttered rum with hot rum and sugar and butter mixed in and it is really good. Have you ever had butter rum lifesavers? Not exactly like that but somewhat like it. If that makes any sense. Another good holiday drink is what we call Hot Scotch. Make hot chocolate and add a shot of Butterscotch Schnapps. My husband also adds a 1/2 shot of rum for an extra kick. It is really good around the holidays or in front of the fire on a cold night.

I have never heard of hot buttered rum I have to say I've only made rum butter as a Christmas thing. My mother used to make that every Christmas and the rum that went into that was the only alchohol that she'd allow in the house. Last Christmas I decided to make some again, and I was surprised at how easy it was (and how nice to eat) It's just unsalted butter creamed together with brown sugar and rum.
