I have two tattoos. One being on my wrist, and it wasn't a factor in getting my job. However, when i work at a location other than my usual one, they prefer i take my tongue ring out. Hmm, a tattoo that is visible is okay, but a piercing that is rarely visible is not okay, yeah that makes sense to me. But anyways, i think it ultimately depends on what kind of job, and how visible the tattoo is. And if the tattoo some how because a problem for a job, i know people who cover there's with make-up.

i guess it really depends on what type of job you are applying. can you cite examples of job that might be bad in dealing with tattoo? i might be applying for one. hehe, thank you pheonixstar your country is way too cool than ours, i wish i was there. hehe.. thanks!

Most professional jobs, like doctors, nurses, lawyers and such...its frowned upon having a visible tattoo, a lot of people think its unprofessional. I honestly do not think that my taste in body art has any effect on my ability to do my job and should not be taken into consideration.

well it depends on where your tattoo is. if it's somewhere that most people won't see, i don't think it'll be a problem. places like the butt, shoulder and belly are good places to get them. i don't think you'll be showing these places to your potential employee right? also, the design plays a small part. don't get those that shouts 'REBELLIOUS' or 'I AM ANGRY' and i think you'll be fine. cheers ;p

Well it depends on where you put the tattoo and what kind of job you want. if you're eyeing to work for a big multinational corporation then make sure the tattoo isn't visible. Even so you might get in trouble for it if there's a medical examination or something...Anyway you can try asking about the company's policy on tattoos before getting one. Find a job first then get the tattoo later. :)

It really just depends on the type of job you are getting, how often you are seen by the general public, and your employers' policies. I work for a Sheriff's Office and we are allowed to have tattoos, they just can not be seen. So since the uniform shirts extend to just above the elbow if you want to get a tattoo on your upper arm that's fine and dandy, or even your back or legs. That is just our policy though, it's different at every job. Personally if you really wanted a tattoo but are worried it could risk you from getting a job, get one in a discrete place. Like maybe the small of your back, or on one of your shoulder blades. More often than not, those are going to be covered by your clothes so no one will know you have the tattoo unless you tell them. Good luck if you decide to get one! Happy my lotting!

they do not prohibit you getting a job, even if they are visible, i have 5 tattoos in total and one of the tattoos i have in on my forearm and i was hired by a company after i had got it. in the summer when you have to wear short sleeves it shows. there are people who do look down on tattoos but alot of people nowadays are more lienent to them because alot more people have them and they are not as taboo as they used to be.

yeah i feel the same way too but here in my country, people are not lenient when you have one they think you're an addict if you have one. but for me, its not like that its an art it is how people express their selves. but no one can stop me! after college i'll have one. hehehe.. thanks darkestraven!

It really depends on the job you get. If you have a tattoo that's visable during your job and is not practical for the job then you'll regret it. But if you can't see it due to your work clothing or what not then there really isn't a problem. It's not like there's a question on your job application that asks if you have a tattoo.

I've noticed more and more people (myself included) getting tattoos. I suppose they are quite in fashion these days, and I don't think it would be grounds to keep you from getting a job, unless it is offensive or is somewhere where it may interfere with your job performance. I have a couple, but they are usually hidden and my mother doesn't know about them. I have a good job and my tattoos don't interfere.

Well, you should probably not get a lot of tattoos that you can't really hide. But I think you should express yourself anyway, but just limit it to places like your back, shoulders, stomach, any places you can cover up.

It depends on what type of job you are trying to get and where you want the tattoo. I have two tattoos but they are not visible in daily work clothes. I have never had an employer question me about tattoos.
