I think in different countries the education structure is different. In my country still std 12th, it is school. we read general stream till 10th. Then we have board exam. after that in general the branches are ARTs(Humanities), Commerce and Science. After 12th comes different course.
I studied Science in 11th and 12th. Then I took engineering after getting selected in the Joint Entrance exam in my state. what you studied in school or college?

here in the Philippines,we have our own
system of education..
as early as 3 years old,a child ca be enrolled in a
daycare center..here,the child is tought of the basics..
color identification..usual stuff that mothers teach their children..
this is not compulsary..mostly childrens elrooled here has parents
who are both working.
Then comes the pre-paratory school..Parents enroll their children here
to prepare them for the usual school life(meeting friends, spending 8 hours in school)those kind of stuffs..here children are taught the basic of reading and
writing.Like the first one, this is not compulsary.
the comes the primary school. It is taken in 4 years(Grade 1 to Grade 4) in this
stage, the child is now taught the basic subjects. This serves as the basic years of
education in our country.
Next is the intermediate school (Grade5-Grade6)..Different subjects are also
taught during this stage..
Next is Highschool..I guess i dont need to elaborate on it..
Next comes college..You can either choose a vocational course (2-3 years) or a B.S. course ( Bachelor in Science, 4-5 years). After that you can take the
board examination (if your couse taken rewuires it).You can then pursue your
Master's (whether you get a lisence or not) and then a Doctorate or Ph.D
degree.
Me,Im a civil engineering graduate and im planning to take
the Board Examinaton,Next year May 2009..
Hopefully, i could pass..

I really didn't have a major in anything. I made good grades in all of my classes after studying very hard. I never did understand Geometry though. I barely passed that class.

Well, for college or University... during the first two years... we studied subjects in general... and we were made to choose what to major in when we reach the third year... since i took up education... the choices i had were English, Filipino, Mathematics, Physical Education, Bio-Chemistry, Values Education, Elementary Education, and History... it took me a long time before i decided to major in History... so i studied it for two years... before graduating... then after a few years... i went back to school to major in mathematics...

Hello subha. When I was at college, I had English education as my major. I love English very much. I still remember when I was a junior middle school student, I started to show interest in the language. As I did a good job, my English teacher asked me to choose English as my major when going to college. So I did. I find it very helpful in my career and ever since I graduated from college, it has been the very one that enables me to make a living by teaching English. Thank you for the discussion, subha.
