Respect for me is taking into consideration other people's feelings. It's building a person up instead of tearing them down and trying to understand other people's viewpoint. But you must first give respect to get respect. How about you? how do earn respect from others?

To those serious student of respect, I would recommend the book of John Maxwell "the 21 irrefutable laws of leadership".
There are many ways to measure a a fellow's respect for his fellow, but perhaps the greatest test of respect comes when a person creates major change, and still his peers, family members, friends and subordinates still support and believes in the person.
But before a person gets through this level of influence a lot of factors come into interplay, his integrity, his honesty, the values he upholds, all these contribute to the building of respect for another person. Some would say I respect a person who is in control of his/her faculties-emotions, some would prefer down to earth and honesty, some go for excellence. But whatever the deciding factors are, you respect someone who respect himself and others as well, regardless of differing opinions you hold.
