What causes brown algae?

I haven't had my tank long so it's only now starting to get brown algae I think or a brown coloured something. I noticed it first on a stone bridge we have but it's now also on the glass. I've checked the water and it's balanced okay as far as I can tell I checked - ammonia, GH, KH, PH, nitrite and nitrate and all are normal. The tank light is on for approx 10 hours. I'd like rid of it but if it's normal I'll just put up with it.

It sounds like you need a sucker fish. They eat the algae. I have had a 55 gallon tank for almost two years and have never had to clean the tank itself, just the rocks. The sucker fish are farely cheap. They are ugly but very useful. Snails also work but they multiply very fast, then you have a snail problem.

I've got two snails at the moment. I think the fish (1 Betta and 2 corydoras adophi) are eating the eggs. I did think about a sucker fish and might just do that as the algae isn't bad but is unsightly.
