I really want to move, but now I'm stressed out over it!

Three years ago I moved from the midwest to be close to my mom in her final years. I had no idea just how soon that would be. Two months after moving here we found out she had cancer. I lost her last summer to the disease. So here we are now, in another state and most of my family is still back north. So, after alot of consideration my partner and I have decided to move yet again, and go back north, where we will be close to all of our family. Prior to today it was just kind of a "in the future we will do this" type of thing. But today my Dad called, and said he has bought a small house for us (which we will make payments on), and will be down sometime in the next month to pick up the first load of our belongings to move into the house. WOW! Its suddenly real. And I am now stressed to the max! I know I have to find homes for some of my pets since I am not able to take them all with me. (Mostly due to poor health reasons there) And I have to sort stuff, pack stuff, sell stuff and get this place cleaned from top to bottom so I can put it up for sale within the next 30 days. And I have to do all of this with my numerous health problems. I'm ready to stick my head in the sand and hide. LOL What was I thinking?

I'd leave stuff before I left my pets.

So would I. Its not the space issue with pets. Its breathing. You see I have severe asthma with COPD and I've just recently been put on oxygen at home. With 7 cats and 3 dogs its just too much. I can't care for them without exhausting myself, and I can't breathe with all the fur. So its time to realize my health is just as important as my fur babies, and to listen to my doctor and family and do something about it - before they find me face down on the floor.

I sure am glad I never smoked. I've had one or 2 asthma type events in reaction to pollution from Dallas when I lived in Denton going to college. I have 25 cats - so I'm glad my allergist got my cat allergy under control all those years ago (like 1985-6.)

I never smoked either - never even tried it. But, I grew up with two smoking parents. Docs say my breathing problems are from being raised with that kind of air.

My EX-brother in law always say talk is easy, but I am going to say it anyway. Just don't think about it, it has to be done and you got to do it , just dive right on in there and get it over with the more you think about it the more stressed you are going to get and what will that solve, the work will still be there. You got 30 days, so don't waste not a one, if it all back up on you then you really will be stressed.. Let us know how you come out through this ordeal. If I was close to you I would help you out.

Thanks. Yea, I am a notorious procrastinator. I'm forever putting things off. Thats probably why Dad bought the house (knowing I'd never get to it) LOL. I've come up with a brilliant idea though. There is a woman in the neighborhood that wants cash to clean. I'm going to see about hiring her to help. I also have a neighbor that is a garage sake expert. So I'm going to offer her first pick (free) of my yard sale stuff and see if she will help with the sale. Another friend said she would sit and help sell stuff for me too. If I rope in enough people maybe I'll make it thru this.

Tess, I am glad you have some who are willing to help. I was going to suggest that possibly the local Ministerial Alliance might be able to help find someone to do for you for free. They are a helpful group. I hate to hear about you having to find homes for your pets. My pets are family. I have a daughter, grandkids and great-grands so I have human family but my dogs are my family also. God Bless

Yes, my pets are family too. But with 7 cats and 3 dogs - my family is just too big for me to handle. And now that I'm on oxygen for my breathing - I just need to have less pet dander etc.

Moving house is a stressful event. If you plan in advance it can be less stressful. Packing things in boxes and make sure that you label each box and write down the contents of each box. It seems you are already organising things by homing your pets that you cannot take with you. Wish you luck in your quest.

Tess, it sounds like a blessing in a way. New beginnings. For a procrastinator the best thing can be to get rid of the old and start afresh. You might surprise yourself that if you stop thinking about it and just start from the backdoor and move to the front, that it will all fall into place. Go with the excitement and not the tension. Go girl.

Yep, I'll do it. I did it three years ago I guess. I can surely do it again.

Moving is always a stressful and exciting time. We tried to sell our home last year with hopes of moving to a larger home. The entire time I was stressed. I know we would be happier but we have memories here. We brought home both our kids to this house and I will miss it, but we will make memories there too. I would just try to take it one step at a time. Dont kill your self trying to get it all done now.

I hope you got the home you want. My new place certainly isn't my "dream home" but it is a roof over my head, and it is where I want to be.

I'd love to hire a moving company. I'm just not sure I can afford one when I'm moving two states away. But, I'm going to start researching it and see what I can find.

This is great new, Tess, and I am very happy that you have got a great new house in the locality you want. Of course, moving is stressful, and I do hope you get nice homes for your furry friends. :) I wish you all luck!! Cheers and happy mylotting

Hate to see you leave south Texas but I know what you mean about being close to family. That was very kind of your dad to do that for you and your partner. What about your stepdad, is he ok with you moving away? As I recall you were having a problem with leaving him if you did move. It will be nice to be near family especially since you do have health problems and I can already tell your dad will be there for you in any way he can.

Bless your heart. Moving is always stressful, but with what you've been through and what you face every day, it's understandable that you're stressing now. But it does look like moving is your best option. I'm betting you'll have to spend a bit less time here as you get ready. We'll be here...

Thanks. I'm not looking forward to the work of it all. Honestly I don't know quite where to begin. But to be settled in an area I'm familiar with will be nice again. And to see my grandchildren and family will be wonderful.

I know it sounds scary, Tess, but this move might be just what you need. Take a deep breath and try to go with the flow - your Dad has made your mind up for you by finding you a lovely new home, and you will be close to your family which will be wonderful. Maybe there are friends who can come and help you with your packing and moving? I hope so, as it's very stressful and won't be good for your health. Right now you need good friends or community helpers who can make your move as easy as possible. The most upsetting part is the pets - I really hope something can be sorted out and most of them will be able to make the move too. Just hang on, have faith - and the end results will be worth it! Good luck, and bless!

Thanks. I know once I get up north I'll have plenty of help. But until then there isn't alot of help locally. I'm usually too broke to pay anyone to help. But I may be able to gift them some of the stuff I don't plan to take. We'll see. The pets - thats the hardest part of it. Seven cats was just silly of me to try and manage with my health. And, now that they are older most people don't want older ones. So I'm not sure what will happen there yet.

Oh Tess, I'm so sorry to hear that you have to go through all this! I know what I big job that this will be for you, but I know that in the end you will be happy and glad that you did it! You just have to take it one day at a time. I know that sounds easier said then done. I haven't had to move in a very long time, but I know that it is a very stressful thing to have to do especially when it means you are making a long move like that and having to pack up things and sell things and leave things behind. You must try to make the best of it and look to what you will be having in the long run. You will be near your family and have an nice new little house and hopefully won't have to move again so you can get settled and stay settled. Like I said try to take things one day at a time and do the best that you can and everything will work itself out. I wish that I could be there for you to help you out and I know that alot of your mylot friends feel the same way too! We are here for you so remember that if you get overwhelmed! Love & hugz, Opal

Thanks Opal. I'm going to start by getting myself moving in the morning, take lots of breaks and just work on one room at a time. I don't actually have to move until spring. But I have to get this place ready to sell by November. So, I just work on it a little at a time I guess, one cabinet at a time.
