I am from a different generation then alot of you and for years I thought I really didn't want a computer. But my kids moved across the big pond and it was a way of communicating with them without telephone calls. I am also a writer and was using a word processor. A friend of mine came one day with an older, but very still usable computer and sat down and taught me how to use it. Now I am on it all the time! I love it and can't see my life without one. Have you always been savy about new things? Did you grow up using a computer or learn about it in school?

I'm of your generation and I started to use a computer in the late 80's but for one reason or another I didn't get online until the late 90's. Before then I was just using it for word processing and spreadsheet work but I knew what I could do online form reading computer magazines and got online as soon as it was possible.
I'd be at a loss now without Internet access. I do all of my banking, most of my shopping and many other things online, not least using MSN to chat to friends in America and elsewhere. I aso take a laptop on holiday with me and check to see if the hotel has a WiFi connection before booking with them.

There are three reasons that I originally purchased my PC:
1. I am an Office Manager of a tax service and am required to be on-call 24/7 during the tax season.
2. I live a very far away from my family and they were on Myspace so I needed a PC to keep in contact with them regularly.
3. I am a writer. Poetry, novels, and song lyrics I have been published in compilations and have wanted to expand into bigger and better things.
I was not introduced to a PC until 2001, honestly. I did not have one growing up and our schools were budget cutting like crazy then. When I got married at 18 I was a SAHM until 2001.

I am entering the fossil years so I did not grow up using a computer. We had a manual typewriter and finally bought an electric typewriter. My husband decided I needed a computer. Maybe he thought I was bored! One of our kids had to come over and show me how to turn it on. I remember the first time I got online. We have dial up so the connection was a screechy noise and I thought something was wrong already with the computer. Our daughters taught me how to send emails, etc. This was the beginning of a very new and exciting experience for me. Now I am on it all the time when I am home.

I got my 1st computer (now i have laptop for almost a year) from my parents when i was 12 (so 7 years ago). Before that, dad was taking me to his office every sunday so i can play games on pc or do something (write, draw, learn bout some program...). So when i got it first, my knowlege was quite high and i 'jumped on horse' straight away. We didnt learned much (if any) about computers in school, we started i think when i was 13 or so but our teachers for that wasnt very good (u can imaginen when we, kids, were helping them, turn it on, save word document, copy files from Floppy...) Good times, good times....

About 18 or so years ago I worked at Tardemark Inc.
They manufactured custom computers for Governments.
Police, FBI, Schools, States, etc.
I was told after my 6 monmth probation I was eligible for a 50% discount.
Well I never touched one prior but said why not.
That's how I got my start m,any many moons ago.
I am so old we used an abacus not adding machines.
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I'm older also. I did post in the past about no electricity and running water when I was young at my home. I bought a computer to earn money online, as my husband was tired of me borrowing his every day. It has been challenging to learn new things on my computer, but certainly worth the time.

i always wanted one but could never afford one. then we got a little bit of money from a settlement and i went out and got one and now i cannot live without it. it makes my life so much easier and i can do all sorts of things from home that save me time and money. i do my online banking and pay bills, i shop, i keep in touch with family and friends and i make money online too. what could be better? of course it stinks when something goes wrong with your computer and you do not know how to deal with it and then have to get outside help but those are the breaks.

i used one at school and enjoyed it then had to get into typing everything up for college and then uni expected everything typed and referenced and presentations etc so thats where i really came into my own. I got my own personal one in about the 2nd year and haven't looked back since have given my older ones to mum dad sister etc. I have no trouble with new technologies so i think even if i hadn't gone to uni i would have been into it all as i am curious find it easy to understand. I hate it when your online/phone with people and they think you won't understand cos your a girl *makes me mad*

I didn't know how to use a computer 10 yrs ago, but now,I don't think I can work without a computer. This is where I save all my files, my letter writer, my DVD, my stereo, where I blog, surf and prepare my things for work. I wouldn' survive without my computer.

When I got told that I am not able to work any more after I got bullied out of my Job because of my Illness, I deteriorated within Months as I fought the Company
Anyway I had never had Interest in a Computer and I have to admit when the Children mentioned it to me I didn't want to know at first as I had no clue about them lol
But then I decided to give it a go and that was 6 Years ago, everything I know now about them I learned through trial and error lol
It has kept me sane over the Years

I am planning to purchase personal computer for my own leisure. It needs enough money to save for that thing. I believed using computer is a kind of investment that can be useful for future use. I decided to buy computer by December because there are promo that can be bought for low prices. I am planning to invest computer for making money online not now because I am busy for my job..

Well, I am from a generation of computers and computers are everything. Anything that i want to do with my computer, entertainment, reading, communicate, I don't even have a television, but I do have a computer. I think a computer is one of the most important devices that you can have in your house. I learned about computers in school. We were required to take computer courses in elementary school. So for as along as I can remember I've known how to use a computer and with the technology growing, who knows what's it going to be like for kids in the distant future. They will think that notebooks and pc's are prehistoric terminology..lol
