Is it better to live in an old or new house?

I've never really liked living in old homes. Too many things are just waiting to break down. Right now, we're living in a slightly older house. It's not really modern, except for the two bathrooms. It just feels old. And, recently, we found out that there is no insulation in some of the interior walls. Could explain why our electric bill is so high! Sometimes, I wish we lived in a newer home. Would be easier to clean things and make everything look good. And maybe cheaper to cool and heat. What do you think? Is it better to live in an older home or newer home? Do you find that newer homes lack charm and warmth?

I still live in our house which was built 27 years ago.. We got this home since I was in highschool..Now, my dad lives in another city, my sister is in the US, my other sister is a few blocks away.. I have come to love this old home, but a new home would be better too.. If we get a house of our own, i would definitely do everything to make it homey, warm, safe and better to live in than the current one.. I guess, it depends on how you make your house to be a home that would be happy to live in, whether it's old or a new one..

Hello beauty queen. I like to live in a new house as I do now. I used to live in an old house before my wife and I bought our new house five years ago. It is much more convenient to live in a new house and it is much easier to clean the house. An old house is not that easy and convenient for a thorough cleaning. Enjoy your life, friend.

I clean houses for a living and most of my clients have newer houses as they have the money to afford them and me for cleaning their house. I don't like the newer houses, they just don't have any character. I prefer the older homes that have character. That have nooks and crannies and have lots of wood work. I also like the old wood cupboards, not the new ones that are painted. I also still prefer carpet in most of the rooms in my house and the newer ones have mostly hard wood or laminate floors. I hate laminate floors because no matter how you wash them, whether on hands and knees or with a mop, they come out streaky. I have used every product that was ever made, to clean them and nothing makes them come out with no streaks. I mean, after you walk on them for a day the streaks are gone but till then you can see them and the house doesn't look clean. But mostly I like the older houses because they were built stronger back then. Now a days the houses are put up so fast and with the cheapest wood, they will never withstand the weather and such like the older ones and will need more repairs in the long run.

It don't matter to me if it's an old or new house. I prefer a house that I could call a home. A place where I can find peace, contentment, happiness every time I go home

It's more cozy living in an old, cozy house. I've lived with my dad for a few summers, his house is from the eighteen hundreds, it's so interesting to be cozy and just sit by the wood burning stove and watch some movies. Just don't sit too close.

i prefer new houses although i have lived in old apartments. when you say old, i connote it with ghosts, silly me, and some leaking roof or it has at least one area that needs to be fixed that's why i dont like old houses.

I think it all depends on the condition of the house. I live in an old apartment building, and while there are some inconveniences, there are still a lot of good points about this place. I don't think we could afford a new place.

I prefer old house, i don't know what the reason is, but i just like it, my dream ever since it to have an old house built near a seashore, i have a feel that a old house is relaxing.

I would definitely prefer to live in a brand new house. Presently I am hoping from one house to another. Right now I am staying in a shop like dwelling, a double storey with 14 rooms and only one room is occupied. It is actually a resthouse but is not fully completed as my dad passed away in the midst of its construction. I become the caretaker here. My real house is as old as my eldest son ie 26 years old and it is a bit run down, infested by termites. Next year my two new houses will be completed but it is right in the center of the town area and and the noises around might not make it good for staying there.

I like living in the new house. As it is usually cozy, well equipped, nice decoration and so on. Sometimes it is even hard to install an air-conditioner in an old house. I love China

I have never lived in a brand new or modern house, the house we are living in now is old, well over 100 years old in fact and it is our first home. I love the house, but it is cold in winter that is my only bug with it. In fact, it is cold all year around! I think it is because it is so big and sprawling, plus the ceilings are really high up too.

Our little house is cold too, during winter! I have not figured out why. Our central heat broke down about two years ago, so now we use box heaters. Gets pretty toasty with two or three of those things running. The rooms stay warm, but not the living room which is wide open and connected to the open kitchen. Hard to heat That part is so so cold, you can't go in there most winter nights. So we stay in the bedroom areas. More fun anyway, that's where the DVDs and computer are!

I live in a very old house that was turned into apartments a few years ago. My apartment, well, the whole house is just beautiful! I prefer older houses for their charm. Things can be modernized without losing that, I think.

yeah.i find that modernising the inner equipments without changing the old and charming looks outside is very popular now.AND that's also a good way to keep the historic city's looks.Yale and harvard and other places do like this.

well..i'll tell you. i live in an 148 year old house, and sometimes it's like open window, throw out money. it's never just one repair-they come in clusters.fix one thing,it sets something else off. BUT..having said that? modern homes don't have the charm the older ones do. if i went to put in mahogany trim nowadays like the inside of this one has,i'd go broke.plus it has the sliding wooden doors in the walls so you can close off rooms to conserve heat.

I think it's better to live in a new house because everything will be improved and modern. Sometimes it's dirty and moist for the old house. The decoration is very outdated in the old house. I love China

It really depends on how the houses were built in whether I'd want a new one or not. Not all new ones are built sturdy or even with enough insulation to make a difference with the electric bill but then there are some that are built like a brick sh!t house!! lol Hubby and I got really lucky when we bought this house for it is well insulated and our electric bill isn't all that high. High yes but not an all time high but we weren't so lucky in our first house. Oh gosh, it was so drafty and electric bills were an all time high. I don't know how we were able to pay them but some how we managed but were "Oh so happy" to get rid of it when we did.

I think if it's not alot of work and has been kept up and isn't a money pit then there is nothing wrong with living in an old house. I think that the house being new or old doesn't make a home. I think it's what you make of it and the family that makes the home so age doesn't really matter unless it is fallign down and apart.

I guess it depends on the house, some houses maybe old but well maintained making it a conducive place to dwell in. Some houses may be new bu are not properly built, has structural problems or other deformities it got during its construction. But for me I would like to live in a new house, one that i designed and supervised during its construction. It is possible since I am a civil engineer.I just need the funds to do so.

It depends on how old it is. If it is broken, sure not. But if it is in good condition, i may like it. old but sentimentally attached to it. my new apartment is empty and undecorated, so even it is new and even after the decoration is done, it will take at least 6 months to live in for the sake of good health.
