Should gold fish have names?

When I was a kid, I had three small gold fish. I don't think they lived more than a few weeks. I don't remember if we named them. I've often wondered why people name their gold fish. But, I guess they're pets just like any other. What do you think? Should you name a gold fish?

Hello beauty queen. I used to have pet gold fish, but I did not name them, nor have I ever thought about it. But we give names to our pet dogs. I think that it makes sense to give a name to a pet dog because it understands us when we call it. Happy posting, friend.

All fish should have a name.My kids named their gold fish Dorothy and Elmo.We won those fish at a carnival. The fish lived for 3 years and grew to be 3 inches. So they were very happy fish till the end.

When I had my indoor tank i had quite a few goldfish and I named them, michael and Janet Jackson, they were black fish, then I had two white gold fish and I named them Elvis and Marilyn and a friend bought me two red and white fish and one looked like it had lipstick on and I let him name them and he called them Harold and Maude after his favourite movie, Maude lived for about three years...

I don't, but I know lots of people who do. It helps the owner tell them apart, I guess. I do not think they learn their names or respond to their names. It is a funny thought.

I don't have gold fish at home but have a family of hamsters. My son has names for each and everyone and they seems to recognize their names. Likewise people have names for their gold fish because they consider it as pet .

I used to name my fish as a child. As an adult we have a warm water tank and had tons of fish, and there were too many to keep track of. Plus some of them looked the same, and I didn't spend too much time finding their slight differences in order to name them. It's just too much of a task, lol.

I have never named my fish, although I see nothing wrong with it.

Naming Gold Fish - yes by all means name the gold fish they are pets
We named our gold fish growing up. They lived for a long time. They were like an inch long when we got them and grew to be 2 to 3 inches long and well lived over a year. So yes I think gold fish should have a name.

If it is a living breathing animal, and we own it, we will give it a name, regardless of the species.

My children gave names to our goldfish, but as an adult I probably wouldn't have named them.
