Backstabbing and the pain it causes

Has it ever happened to you that the ones you trust are the ones who betray you?? Previously when I was a student in school , I had friends I could trust my life without any hesitation.Now however I am in a proffesional college where I have new friends.These ones I can't even trust with simple belongings.The movement I turn my back on them they miame my character. Whatever it is they cannot say it to my face.Has anything like this happened to you?If yes how did you handle the situation?
