I am grasping at straws on what to write lately. I seem to be depleted of subject matter. I sit here and stare at the pc screen and draw a blank. Haveyou ever gone through this? I need to get over it though and get on with writing lol.

You're looking for things to write about on AC, right? Here are some ways I find topics. I write about a lot of health stuff, so I will make lists of various health problems: high blood pressure, heart attacks, indigestion, etc, etc. Then pick one to do a bit of research on and write about. You may not be interested in writing about health, so that may not work for you. I've also written a lot on alternative medicine, because it interests me. I also like cats a lot, so I will sometimes write something about cats. Different breeds of cats, cat health, cat nutrition, and so. Those are some topics I have written on. I like to pick topics that interest me, because then the research is fun, not so much like work. I am a reader, so I have a lot of books at home. Sometimes I look through my books and find something interesting and write an article about it. Sometimes I just surf around the internet until I find something interesting. You might look around mylot and get some ideas from some of the discussions here. You could even get ideas from other articles on AC. Make sure you don't copy them, but they could give you ideas. This doesn't happen to me, because I am an extremely literal person, as well as an extremely literal writer. As long as something is happening in my life, I have something to write about. It's never a problem for me to write about what I know, or to write about what is going on around me. That's one way I relieve stress, is to WRITE about it!

i think that every writer at one point or another has had writers block but i also think that writers are the only people that are this hard on themselves. my suggestion is not to be so hard on yourself and try some free writing or visit a website that offers writing prompts, that may help.

I rarely have to write to a deadline, so writers block doesn't really become an issue for me. I just do it when I feel so inspired. I think that a great source of inspiration is people watching though. Perhaps, if you get stuck, you could take yourself somewhere and sit with a coffee or something for half an hour. Imagine where people have come from and where they are going, who their partners are, what their jobs are and where they live. In no time you'll have built up some little stories about them, and one might be just the spark you need to kick off an idea. Worst case scenario is that you don't get any ideas but you get half an hour's peace and a cup of coffee. You can't lose LoL
