Upgrade to premium or buying referrals?

PTC sites are popping out like mushrooms over the web. It is becoming a booming internet industry. There are some which are legitimate and most are scam sites. For those which are legitimate PTC sites, which strategy do you prefer: upgrading to premium account or buying referrals?
